Lazurite Academy

Greetings apprentice. I am Flame. You will come to know me as one of the Founders of the Lazurite Academy. I am the Master of War Magic, Holder of the Seal, High Mage of the War Mage's Floor within and Council member to the Lazurite Academy. Judging by your expression, you've never met a Warforged before. Well, my brother, Spark, will be sure to surprise you. That's enough about me for now. Allow me to introduce you to the Lazurite Academy. As you well know, we are the only academy for practitioners of the Arcane Arts. As an Initiate, you have already gone through our stringent selection process for potential students. Despite our being the only academy for the Arcane, does not mean we are stupid enough to let everyone in to learn our ways. You've heard of evil mages yes? Therein lies the reasoning for that. Hence the requirement for potentials to submit to the spells known as the Zone of Truth, Detect Evil and Good, Identify, Augury, Detect Thoughts, Remove Curse, Divination, Dispel Evil, and Commune in addition to Contact Other Plane(In the most serious of circumstances). You perhaps have done some research and know certain spells I mentioned cannot be used by Mages and only Paladins or Clerics which is why the Azurite Academy has a long standing relationship with the Holy City of Protos Naos. The other Founders and I put quite some thought into matters such as this long before the first stones were set into place. All that into the initiation process. You will find as you learn our ways and progress in your learning that we put even more so into the other aspects of the Academy as well.   Did you know it was my brother and I who created Circle Magic? In the likely even you forgot from your books, Circle Magic is the casting of a single spell by two or more mages of the Academy. One of our greatest assets. You see, Circle Magic allows several mages to mimic and enhance the Meta Magic wielded by a sole Sorcerer. Enhancing the potency of our spell, the range or longevity among other things. This is only one of the many benefits to becoming a mage of the Azurite Academy.   I see you have earned your first Ring, granting you your status as Initiate and member of the First Circle. The Ring you wear is unique as others will be unable to use it. Even you cannot remove it. It is now bound to you through mind, heart, body and soul. You will learn to store some spells within it for use in dire times. As such, the secrets you learn while in the academy shall be taken to your grave with you. Another precaution.   Ah, you are wondering why this place is called the Five Towers? Hehe. Step inside young Initiate and see for yourself. This tower is under the watch of High Mage Lilosira Alduashtath and serves as her personal Tower and as a gateway to the true location of the Azurite Academy. Ah hello, Lilo. Just showing a new Initiate around. Do not call her that. Only her friends do. You will address her by her title Initiate. Ah yes, the door. As you can see, it will only open to wearers of Rings of the Academy and only the wearer may enter. Don't worry Initiate, the glow is the magic of the ring telling the door not to render your body to ash. Now step through. At last here we are. The Five Towers. The Five Towers and the area around them, as well as the other buildings are all anchored to what we call a pocket dimension. Created by myself and the other Founders working in unison. The Towers make up a star pattern when viewed from above, you'll see when you practice your flying spell. The Tower on the bottom left of the star is known as Turris Scientia, the Tower of Knowledge, the Tower of the Artificers. If you see or hear explosions coming from there, it's completely normal, most times anyway. Designed and built by the most skilled Artificers of the time. The material it is made of is Adamantine and enchanted by a combination of Arcane, Draconic and Rune Magic of the Giants, with of course, a few extra "tweeks" of the Artificers. Ever the experimenting and inventing folk they tend to be. Now, the Tower to the bottom right of the star is Turris Canticum, The Tower of Song. Yes, the one with the loud music coming from it. That is the Tower of the Bards. I suspect, they spend most of their time drinking and fornicating but the Master of that tower assures me learning takes place and I can not argue with the results. Never under-estimate the skills and abilities of the Bards. Their tower is composed of song in physical form. Hence it's beauty and magical appearance. Be mindful Initiate, nature herself has shown many times that beauty is equivalent to deadliness. Such is the same for Bards, their songs and tales. The Tower that makes up the top left point of the star pattern is Turris Foedus, The Tower of the Pact. This is the Tower of the Warlocks. Oh don't give me that scared look. You are to be a mage! Act like it! Look, notice the material. Shadow, divine light, trees of the Feywild, Stone from the Nine Hells, and material from the Far Realms. The path of Warlocks is similar to any tool young Initiate. In the right hands, used for creation, helping others or protection. In the wrong hands, destruction. Such is the same for magic as a whole. Keep that in mind. Now that tower there, makes up the upper right point of the star. That is Turris Sanguine, Tower of the Bloodline, and tower of the Sorcerers. Yes, I know it's constantly shifting and moving Initiate. I've been here longer remember? That, believe it or not, is normal. Storm, Shadow, Divine Light, Draconic Magic and Magic of the Feywild make up the tower itself. It's movements are the result of Wild Magic that makes up apart of the tower's physical form. Ever the unpredictable is Wild Magic. As such, it should be no surprise that it does not adhere to the laws of physics. You'll get used to it. Finally, the tower that makes up the top point of the star. That is Turris Lumen, the Tower of Illumination. That is the tower of Wizards and Witches. Made of stones and metal from the Elemental Plane of Earth, nourished with water from the Elemental Plane of Water, lighted and warmed by fire from the Elemental Plane of Fire and warded and filled with air and winds from the Elemental Plane of Air. Heavily warded, with countless magical defenses and protectors. I am one of the Tower's Keepers. What? No, you don't go there. You go to the building in the center. That is the De Magica Satus, The Start of Magic. That is where your lessons begin and you choose your path in the study of the Arcane. Welcome to the Lazurite Academy, welcome to the Five Towers and welcome to your beginning. Seek knowledge, use it with wisdom and come to understanding.

Culture

Knowledge is always worth it's pursuit but once attained, must be used only with great care and wisdom. Magic is for the betterment of all not the selfish ambitions of power for the few. Understanding is required to know when the Power of the Arcane must be called upon. It is our duty to teach to those willing to learn, protect those who cannot protect themselves and work toward a united world.

Public Agenda

Collect and contain magical items of great danger and power, research magical lore, teach those willing to be taught, advise kingdoms and their leaders when asked.

History

Two hundred and seventy years ago, a great Wizard of Divination, a human known as Kreios met two other wielders of magic. They were brothers, what more, they were Warforged. One named Flame was a War Mage and the other, Spark, a Wild Magic Sorcerer. Both of whom have recently returned from Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. It was they, with the aid of a Shifter Druid named Nina, a human Paladin of Torm named Reya, and a human Eldritch Knight named Connor, collectively known as "The Dauntless Few", who saved Elturel and the souls of its people from the grips of devils and demons. Kreios, was impressed, having recently stopped the dark dragon goddess Tiamat from returning from her prison, he was not one to give such praise easily. The two brothers, Spark and Flame became fast friends with Kreios. Spark and Flame taught Kreios Circle Magic, the happy accident of Flame's studies into Spark's magic. Together, all three mastered and perfected Circle Magic. While Spark and Flame were content to run a store catered to adventurers, Kreios had the desire to found a school for those of magical talent. The brothers were quick to propose aiding in the initial funding and the instruction of new students of the arcane arts. Combined, their knowledge of the Arcane was vast but nowhere near complete. It was then, they decided they would need spell crafters from every field of magic. Thus began the plans for the Lazurite Academy. Kreios told the brothers of a dear friend of his who helped with his fight against the Cult of the Dragon. A human bard of the College of Swords known as Blade. Charismatic with a quick wit, she was able to add her knowledge to the collection of arcane lore and techniques. She also proved quite useful in negotiating with other spell casters and several factions. As their great undertaking was underway, they met a captain of a ship called the "Intrepid" along their journey to the Human Kingdom of Ameriel. The captain of the vessel was a Tiefling woman named Trouble. The group was pleasantly surprised to learn of her abilities as a Celestial Warlock. After excited talks she agreed to help them found this "school of mages". She was open to the idea due to her recent founding of a school for adventurers known as "Lionheart College". The pieces began to fall into place. They needed only a place to start and to find an Artificer. Together, they sailed to the different nations of the world. It was unfortunate that no nation would permit the construction of a college without some sort of agenda of their own. Usually this took the form of their people being taught first and only their people. However, with the Kingdom of Ameriel, they found a ruler who's ideals fit along theirs. Yet again, it seemed fate was working against them as they could not attain the space required for such a large complex. They were afforded a portion of land though. Sufficient to construct a Wizard's Tower but no larger. It was then that an idea came to Kreios. The great wizard, Mordenkaine, created the spell known as Mordenkaine's Magnificent Mansion. Kreios and the brothers Spark and Flame taught Circle magic to Blade and Trouble. What if all together they used Circle Magic to cast it? The result was the pocket dimension which came to be known as The Five Towers. The Circle Magic made the pocket dimension large enough to fit a village with room to spare and made it permanent! Since they cast it within their tower, the first gate into the Five Towers lies within it. With a great feat accomplished, much work still remained. The group spent months warding the gate to their dimension. Layer upon layer of magical and mundane security was set in place. During this time an accomplished Gnome Artificer named Gimble Folkor had come to Ameriel in search of a place to conduct his experiments as he had been kicked out of all the other kingdoms for "causing too much destruction" or some such none sense as he called it. It seemed the only kingdom left was Ameriel who's officials had received warning of the "loose cannon". Never the less, he was allowed in but not allowed land to rent, purchase, or lease. When the Royal Court had heard of his arrival, the instant concerns were quelled by the High Mage Lilosira Alduashtath who knew of Gimble and was aiding the group of mages who had a very important "project" going on. The solution presented itself. Gimble was "escorted" to the tower and the mages there were at first excited to learn of an Artificer of exceptional talent within the kingdom then dismayed at his......reputation. Still, he was welcomed into their fold and proved to be not only a master of spell craft but an expert in Arcane Construction. Thus the final Founder of what would be known as the Lazurite Academy was found. The rest, as they say, is history.
