Somnia - The Nightmare
"Close your eyes. Dream with me..."Somnia is the Fallen Ancient of nightmares, fear, and unrest, formely being the Ancient of Dreams. Rebelling alonside many of her brethern against the Creator during The Cataclysm, Somnia was felled by Arbora during the cosmic conflict, though it can be argued that this was in her favour. Falling and crashing into the base of The Realm Tree, Somnia's corruption seeped into the roots of the great tree, forming the terrible realm Necrosis. Thus, she is indirectly responsible for the creation of the chaotic race of Nightmaren. Simultaneously, many Eladrin using The Realm Tree as shelter from the Cataclysm were infected by Somnia's spreading corruption, and were transformed into the first Drow, or Dark Elves. Many Drow count themselves as Followers of Somnia, though there are also those who prefer to follow Lokess - The Crawling Queen, given their newfound home in the Underdark. Due to these long lasting consequences, many scholars regard Somnia as one of the most influential of the Fallen Ancients, albeit unintentionally. While early accounts cite that Somnia was slain during the Cataclysm, and that her corpse is what gives Necrosis its form and power, there are others who claim that the Fallen Ancient is very much alive, biding her time until her nightmarish visions can once more be made a reality upon creation. Afterall, there are many on Arkos who continue to suffer from nightmares and restless dreams...
