The Savage Barrens
Once a lush meadow at the foot of a great mountain range the Savage Barrens in the second age was much different then it is now in the third age. Originally known as the Luin Meadow, it was home hundreds of Giants and thousands of Dwarves, humans and animalfolk. Filled with large open plains of fertile land and small groups of trees. This land was worked by the people who lived it and it was all part of the Kingdom of IronCrane. This was all before the enteral slumber, when Giants and dragons fought for control of the world during the early second age. It just before The Eternal Slumber that the Luin meadow was burned by the Dragon Xerkot. Some believe that Xerkots attack was the reason for The Eternal Slumber. The gods fearing the continued escalation of violence from both the Dragons and Giants. Either way Xerkots attack change the Luin meadow, his fiery breath scorched the earth. Setting the fields ablaze and melting the stone buildings and statues of the Dwarves. The destruction left many miles of the fields Barren and dry. The top soil burned and swept away, only a few plants now grow in the Barrens. Those plants are harsh are as unforgiving as the landscape. From cactus plants with fruit that when eating in high quantities kill most creatures, sharp razor weeds that grow out of the cracks in the dirt. To the small Bone Oaks that grow no leaves and suck water from aquifers deep below the ground. These oak trees and ten times the size as below ground as above and some think they are a single tree connected threw it's roots. These roots are often the source of water and food for many people and creatures that live in the Savage Barrens. To north the Savage Barrens end at The Brunedoore Woods and Pire Woods, while to the east the arid dirt blends into the sands of the devil's beach. To the south the Barrens end at the ruins of IronCrane and to the west the Barrens end at the coast of The Beuw Lake. The Savage Barrens have large hills or dunes threw out the landscape, these dunes are often full of ancient ruins. Remnants of the second age and the society that once thrived former meadows. These dunes are home to many different creatures of unknown origin along with settlements of Goblins and Orcs. The creatures that live in the Barrens are dangerous and unforgiving. From the various types of dinosaurs, to the Lions, Zebra, and Giraffes. Most destructive are the Gnolls who are always followed by pacts of Hyenas. Gnolls are the terrible creations of the Savage One, who was a terrible Demon Lord that invaded Ardarock in the second age. He used the Mountain in the Savage Barrens as his base while he waged war against the Kingdoms. Today that mountain is known as the Rabid Peak but it has worse names. Most creatures other then Gnolls avoid the Rabid Peak although the Gnolls to gather there for some kind of rituals.
