The Saashein Tablet

The Saashein Tablet [Sahz-shh-heighn] is a religious artifact revered by the Ash Zealots, said to be an inscription marked upon a slab of alien metal by the fingers of the Ash Gods themselves. The Zealots believe that it is a gift to mankind from the alien deities, and that the inscriptions upon it describe the reason for the Ash Gods' invasion of Earth, the purpose of its transformation into Ashrain, the signs by which humanity will know their purpose in the new world, and the means by which the Ash Gods will transform the planet into a new, green paradise in which they will live among the restored humanity in harmony.

History

The Saashein Tablet is said to have fallen from one of the Ash Gods mighty Constructs like a flaming meteor. When it landed, the impact was like an atomic bomb, sending a plume of fire and ash skyward to join the the ash cloud; however, one man who was standing nearby was not killed by the explosion. Instead, he made his way to the nearby impact crater and in its center discovered the slab of alien metal. Possessed by the spirit of the tablet and, according to the Zealots, divine inspiration, he screamed out the incomprehensible word 'saashein!' From that day forward, he spoke in babbles and gibberish, indicating by gestures that he was speaking of the tablet. Those who found him thought it quite clear that this man had been blessed with a great gift by the gods, and that his babbling speech was a new tongue with which they might comprehend its strange inscriptions. As such, they formed the Ash Zealots with the unknown man as their first High Priest and enshrined the Saashein Tablet as their most sacred artifact. Since then, the language spoken by the first High Priest has become the foundational scriptural and chanting language for all forms of worship. Though it is still as incomprehensible as it was when it was first spoken, the Zealots believe that the Ash Gods can understand what humanity cannot, and so speak it fervently to call on their mercy and blessings.
