Auxilium is the southernmost and smallest khanate, nestled on the border of the Verges. It contains part of the Setting Mountains and the River Yeoman. It is the coldest of the khanates as well.
The ruler of Auxilium is Khan Wanderer.
Geography
Auxilium is built on the southern mountains of the Setting Mountain range. It contains a small amount of forest, plains, and mountains all in one, and it tends to be the coldest of the khanates with the harshest winters, due to its elevation and positioning on the globe. Throughout most of the year, Auxilium is covered in snow.
Though the Milkweed Woods officially are contained within the borders of Tolba, smaller and less dense forests speckle the landscape of Auxilium’s plains and mountains. The mountains also contain a large amount of raw silver ore, which contributes to the economy and culture alike.
The capital of Auxilium is
Toqtak, a city that straddles the River Yeoman and houses Khan Wanderer. It gets a lot of trade traffic from the Crater.
Culture
Auxilium is built on the traditions of the Auixilum tribe, who founded the khanate. The tribe was originally made up of humans, goliaths, wood elves, high elves, orcs, half-orcs, genasi, and other cold-adjusted races, but now any race can be found amongst the snow of the khanate. Auxilium currently has the largest population of Gloom races amongst the khanates due to its proximity to the Crater. There are many neighborhoods and boroughs of Gloom folks amongst the khanate. Though the tribe is the cultural core of the area, not every person who lives in Auxilium is an Auxilium tribesman.
The Auxilium tend to be somewhat withdrawn and are seen as aloof and cold, but in truth they are much warmer than they may appear. The Auxilian culture is built on the prospect of hospitality, mirroring the Dejad culture. Since the environment is so harsh and unforgiving, the Auxilium are the kind and forgiving force of the land, accepting in outsiders who have fallen on hard times as well as providing for the needy - because if these folks aren’t provided for in such an environment, they will likely die.
The Auxilium also have a particular fascination with jewelry and body modification. Much silver is collected in the mountains and turned into beautiful ornate jewelry, including earrings, facial piercings, headpieces, and lip plates. The wearing of lip plates is typically reserved for tribal members only, but sometimes those outside the tribal culture adopt the practice as well. Many Auxilium tribespeople pride themselves in their jewelry and body modifications.
The Auxilium also tell their stories through words and pictures alike inscribed, hammered, or etched onto silver jewelry, silverware, or metal plaques.
Economy
Auxilium’s economy relies on the mining and export of raw silver in the mountains as well as production of silver wares, including but not limited to jewelry, rings, earrings, necklaces, silverware, lip plates, clasps, belt buckles, swords, silvered weaponry, etc. There is also a decent economic emphasis on logging and fur trading.
Auxilium also relies on trade, similar to Dejad - its capital, Toqtak, is settled on one of the only safe bridges across the River Yeoman, and it is on a popular trade route from the Gloom up through Warka to Dhulwin’s starstone.
