Harantsi is the khanate that makes up the eastern coast of Warka, facing the Inner Sea. It was founded by Harantsi tribesmen.
The ruler of Harantsi is Khan Agmen.
Geography
Harantsi’s geography encapsulates grasslands and oceanic beach coast. The coastal areas are closer to a tropical savannah area rather than a wet tropical area.
Several tributaries connect to the ocean on this coast, as well as the Yeoman River to the south. The Yeoman River originates at two points on the Harantsi coast.
Tyumen, the capital of Harantsi also known as the Stained Glass City, is built on an inlet on the coast surrounded by a string of islands. It is the seat of Warka’s navy. Khan Agmen resides here.
Islands and archipelagos can be found all down the Harantsi coast. Many people live on the ocean rather than in the grasslands, the bulk of the population condensed on the coast. The cities and towns on the coast tend to have most of the city on land and part of the city out in the shallows of the ocean built on stilts and connected with bridges. In these centers of population, there are occasionally small neighborhoods built underneath the waves for races that are more comfortable in the water.
Culture
Harantsi’s culture is influenced heavily by the Haransti tribesmen, though not everybody who resides in the khanate is part of the tribe or practices the traditional culture. The original tribesmen were mostly seafaring humans, sea elves, tortles, and water genasi, but now any race can be found amongst the Harantsi docks and marshes.
The traditional culture of the Harantsi is very focused on the ocean and its gifts. Many Harantsi worship Marinus, the god of the ocean, as a provider and father. They respect the gentle brutality of the ocean and tend to shape their lives around the unpredictable yet cyclical nature of the waves, for the sea may be calm one day, and churning and raging the next. The Harantsi believe in a culture of repercussions, or karma; the reason the ocean churns and rages is because someone must’ve broken the laws of the land or done something bad to receive this in return. Due to this belief, many Harantsi try to be as law-abiding as possible to avoid the wrath of the ocean.
The Harantsi culture is also built on storytelling, particularly through the medium of art and illustrated depictions. The stained glass they produce tends to depict images of heroes and monsters, of gods and mortals, and of the ocean and nature’s beauty. Many designs are created with the intention to tell a story. Though the majority of the Harantsi khanate is literate, they tend to prefer picture books over books with just text, claiming texts are boring without any illuminations.
Economy
Many folks who work on the Harantsi coast are employed by Warka’s navy, since the navy is headquartered in Tyumen. The navy works to prevent piracy and privateering as well as just generally protect Warka’s oceanic borders from intruders and monsters alike.
Many merchants and fishermen work along the coast on docks and in cities, helping to provide food and goods to the population.
Harantsi is also a place of much artisanship, particularly in stained glass artistry. There are many masters of glassblowing and stained glass artists that create beautiful works that are traded and sold all along the coast, through Warka, and throughout Astalia. Though the design of the windows are created with the sun of the Brights in mind, some Harantsi glasswork has made its way to the Gloom as well.
