Ellis II
Emperor of the Hadrianic Empire, First Among Equals
Ellis II is the current emperor of the Hadrianic Empire and rules the city from the Imperial Palace in the capital. Almost 40 years ago, Ellis successfully put down a revolt led by the sons and daughters of former senators. Ellis received a vision from
Krom before the final battle, and after a crushing victory Ellis crucified the rebelling senators and dedicated the empire to Krom's glory.
Ellis oversaw the rebuilding of the empire after the war, but as he as advanced in age, and without a named successor, the empire he worked so hard to keep seems to be slowly rattling apart. He has become increasingly reclusive, rarely leaving the palace grounds except to visit the Arena, and has delegated responsibility for running the empire to his governors and advisors.
Ellis sees himself as Krom's avatar in this plane of existence. Even though the Church of Krom has flourished under Ellis's reign, he has found himself at odds with the Archbishop, who has set up his own court to investigate and punish heretics, which has undermined the secular courts under Ellis's authority.
After the party was found not guilty of heresy by the inquisitor's court, the emperor demanded that the church hand the party over to him to be punished for treason. When the Grand Inquisitor refused, saying no man was above Krom's law, fighting broke out between the emperor's Praetorians and the paladins from the Order of Krom.
The emperor disappeared in the ensuing chaos. He retreated to Korribon to be with his oldest son, Tiberius Hadrianus , and prepare the Northern legions to re-take the capital. Open civil war seems inevitable.
