The Cerulean Summit
Through the Sewers
As the party prepared to leave the tabaxi stronghold, Lethe asked Sokamoto if he had any suggestions on how to defeat the Third Champion. Sokamoto said that their best bet was to avoid engagement with him altogether, but should they come to a fight they should attempt to hold or trap him, as his greatest strength was his mobility. Sokamoto then dispatched Khoman to escort the party to the edge of rebel-controlled territory before heading back to the main cistern. The party pressed onward through the sewers, following the path laid out for them by Sokamoto. After an hour's walk, Erevan began to notice the air was becoming quite cold, while Aberchak noticed the walls and floors were unnaturally clean save for a patchy coating of strange brown mold. Lethe detected an odd, hostile presence nearby and the party prepared to do battle. Several tense moments passed before Aberchak noticed what had first appeared to be the end of a side passage moving towards them, and identified it as a gelatinous cube. The party engaged in combat with the cube, which quickly consumed several of Lethe's skeletons as another entered the fight. Meanwhile, Erevan's fire spells drew the attention of the strange brown mold on the walls, which seemed to expand exponentially in the presence of heat. After nearly being consumed himself, Erevan managed to escape the cubes as Lethe finished them off with a series of lighting bolts. Quickly scavenging the remains of Lethe's skeletons, the party hurried out of the chamber as the brown mold continued to expand, fully blocking the passage back. The Summit
The party continued onward for another half hour before heading back topside at the point marked by Sokamoto. They found themselves in a burned-out neighborhood, and noticed that the majority of the damage to this particular area seemed to originate from a central point as most of the debris seemed to push outwards. As they trekked toward the nexus of this impact, they soon found a large arcane tower... or at least the top half of it, floating above a smoldering crater. What was left of the Cerulean Summit seemed to be magically suspended in the air, held aloft as if the bottom portion weren't destroyed. The party debated whether or not it was worth investigating, but eventually elected to scope it out through the use of Erevan's fly spell. As they arrived in the remnants of the tower, they ascended through a series of levels. before reaching the very top where they were greeted by a portly and rather friendly dwarf. The dwarf introduced himself as a simulacrum created by the late Virren Lunamir, who had blown himself up along with a large portion of the city attempting to cast plane shift in an effort to travel back to the Material Plane. Since then, the simulacrum of Lunamir had been searching through the original Virren's notes to determine why the spell had such disastrous effects. Lunamir's simulacrum told the party that he was certain the planespire native to this plane was the cause of the explosion, as it blocked travel between planes unless under very specific circumstances. Through conversation with Lethe, the two came to the conclusion that travel out of the Faerie would be impossible while the spire was still functional. That being said, Virren believed that he might be able to modify the plane shift spell to transport the entire city back to the Material Plane, provided the spire were neutralized and a sufficiently powerful source of arcana was obtained to power the spell. To that end, the party realized that one of their first goals should be to neutralize the planespire. Noticing their wounds sustained in the fights through the sewers, Virren offered accommodations within the Cerulean Summit for the party to recuperate before heading back out, which the group happily took him up on.Chapter Thirty-Seven
