The Hildonian Job
General Summary
As Precision and Percival Fould approached the carnage, the two lept into action. The elderly mage focused on getting the civilians to safety, transforming them and Pancake into butterflies and leading them high up into the air and away from the battle. Still under the effect of her love potion, before leaving Percival lent Precision his personal arcaltium ring to help her allies in battle. As he guided the flock of butterflies away Precision charged in and joined the fray. Erevan and Ciana, realizing the monsters were resistant to magical damage, began hammering away with their crossbows. During the fight several of the monsters turned their attention towards the Royal Plaza and began scaling the gatehouse walls, charging through the defenses in an almost single-minded attempt to reach the palace. Erevan and Ciana made chase while Precision ran to find Percival for help. Meanwhile back in the Arcaneum, Lethe examined the treasures and defenses. Staying in contact with the rest of the party, he waited until the height of the chaos for maximum distraction before smashing through the Alarm spells and grabbing as many spell scrolls as he could. Making a beeline for the exit, he tripped several defenses but managed to avoid harm and escaped to the roof. Utilizing the Feather Fall spell, he made a running leap off the top of the library and glided to safety far away from the plaza. At the Royal Plaza, the monsters had gotten inside the gates. Erevan and Ciana fired at them from atop the gatehouse as Precision and Percival arrived. Precision scaled the gate and leapt down to fight the monster on the ground, as Percival assisted her from behind before the alarm orb in his coat began chiming. The party managed to slay all of the monsters before they reached the guests, and as the last creature fell a great explosion was heard from the east. Lethe, still gliding through the air, noticed it came from South Isle Prison, and determined it to be Foote making his move. Turning invisible so as not to be detected, he made his way to the banks of the Aiberrun River and communicated as such with the rest of the party. Not wanting to miss their ride, the party quickly left the scene of the battle, leaving the guards and Percival confused about the simultaneous chaos. Meeting up along the river, the party saw a large section of the prison wall in flaming ruins as military forces attempted to contain the escaping prisoners. Among the chaos they spotted a rowboat fleeing the scene, and upon it they could see Foote and two other men. After flagging him down the party boarded the rowboat and on the way out of the city John Foote introduced the party to Rémy and Antoine Voullé de Larron, two brothers and fellow corsair captains. As the party boarded the Amity Foote revealed that he had made arrangements for the Larrons' ship the Diligence to meet them further south downriver. As the ship left Alcaster behind, in the far distance behind them the party could see a single tall ship much larger than the Amity pursuing them. Foote told the crew not to worry as his ship could easily outrun an old Imperial-era warship, even with the delay of meeting and exchanging crew with the Diligence. A slow chase ensued for several hours, with the Hildonian ship not gaining ground but remaining in sight. As morning broke, the Diligence came within sight. The brothers were relieved to see their ship and began making ready to board but as the Amity came within range, the second ship lowered the Larrons' personal flag, hoisted the Hildonian colors, and began firing.Chapter Eleven
