Halfling

The halfling language is a language spoken by the halflings of Avalor. The halfling language is an increasingly uncommon one; since halflings are adaptive by nature, the vast majority of them have abandoned their native tongue to speak Common or other human languages. Still, older communities of strongheart halflings that have not integrated with humans uphold tradition and use halfling as the vernacular. Halfling is a very simplistic language and one of the easiest to learn. It is more dedicated more towards practicality than beauty, with most words consisting of only one or two syllables. Like Common, Halfling is composed of many words and phrases borrowed from other languages, due in part to the nomadic lifestyles of most halflings. Halfling language isn’t secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don’t have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong, and the halfling language is preserved in many communities merely as a means to pass on old tales.
