Power of Evolution
The Power of Evolution is a magical force that has been wielded in Azimuth's history to grave effect. The true nature and process of harnessing this power is a secret, which has been discovered by only a few entities in the world's history, though it is believed to be incredibly difficult and dangerous to achieve.
Some postulate it is an integral force of nature that can be used like a tool, and others theorize it is just an incredibly powerful spell ritual. There are even some who say the Power of Evolution never existed and has been exagerrated from mythical tales of previous ages.
The Power of Evolution was central to the events of the Great War, and it was a major force behind the later Manslayer War and Tarterian War.
Description
Little is known regarding what the Power of Evolution truly is. While the origins of this force and the rituals surrounding it are unknown, some of the effects of it have been seen in history. The History of the Third Age states this power allowed Esturk, The World's End, some type of dominion over the "lifeforce of those not under him" and was seen to increase the strength and power of the Dragon:"Daemons and unruly beasts at his command not enough, the Great Evil forged an ungodly magick, syphoning the lifeforce of those not under him, those Good and Honorable people, and added their lifeforce to his own. Thusly, he forced his nature to change and grow, and mutated his evolution into a power that rivaled the Great Dragon, the Dragon King."The Story of the Zenethian Heroes states that Psaro the Manslayer, somehow discovered this same power. Using this, Psaro created the talking animals and enchanted trees of Rosaville, seemingly to test this ritual. Later, he would use an imperfect form of the full ritual in an attempt to transform himself, however he lacked the needed materials and the ritual backfired:
"An imperfect version of the Power of Evolution was cast and Psaro was transfigured into an abomination instead of the demigod he aimed to become. His figure twisted to a mass of mismatched appendages and tentacles and he mindlessly engaged"During their journey, the Zenethian Heroes interrogated a captured minotaur from Psaro's forces. According to him, the ritual Psaro was attempting to perfect was the same one previously used by Esturk. He said it required several important components, including "the blood of gods and of demons, and of a ritual from a time before the pantheon". This was seemingly confirmed by Psaro when he offered the Heroes the return of their captured friends in exchange for some of their blood. While unconfirmed, it appears that this power, or a portion of it, is capable of being removed from an entity using it. This was seen during the final battle between Esturk and Zenthai, and is recounted in The Story of the Zenethian Heroes:
"The battle above went poorly for Zenthai. Alone and still wounded, he had not the strength to hold back Esturk indefinitely. He could not defeat him, but he could make it so his children might. Latching onto Esturk, Zenthai pulled a shining rainbow crystal from The World’s End, and as the dark Dragon screeched, the power exploded, sending Zenthai crashing into the battlefield below. Esturk flew down and landed heavily on the mortally wounded Zenthai. And with a final attack, Esturk killed The Dragon King."
History
The Third Age: The Age of Zenethia
At some point in the late Third Age, Esturk, The World's End, discovered the Power of Evolution. Using this force, he grew beyond his previous strength. When he next emerged around 3A 1992, Zenthai, The Dragon King, could not stop him alone, and the Great War began. The Fourth Age: The Age of Shadow
At some point in the late Fourth Age, Psaro the Manslayer discovered the Power of Evolution. He used this to create the talking animals of Rosaville. After the start of the Manslayer War, Psaro began to gather the divine blood of the Zenethian Children in an attempt to perfect this ritual. On 2 Avedar 4A 996, during the final battle between Esturk and Zenthai, Zenthai pulled "a shining rainbow crystal" from Esturk. It is unknown if this was the full Power of Evolution, a fraction of it, or something else entirely. However, this allowed the Zenethian Heroes to overpower Esturk and set him to slumber once more. On 3 Janafen 4A 997, during the Zenethian Heroes' assault on the Citadel of Bronze, Psaro attempted an imperfect version of the ritual. Though partial successful, the ritual changed Psaro into a mutated and transfigured creature instead of a demigod.
