Sarnhén-tul

The Capital of Soretta, the Undying Aristocracy

Sarnhén-tul is the capital city of Soretta, the Undying Aristocracy, and is the dominant city in the White Stone Cliffs region of Haradren Gaer Arnad. It is a bustling metropolis and the head of the government for the Aristocracy, housing many facilities not found elsewhere in the country.   The city is located south of the major port of Gaerna Ambar, and the roadways leading out of the city head eastward to the rest of Haradren.

Description

The city was originally a small elven settlement on the edge of the White Stone Cliffs, which was formed by elves driven with wanderlust to leave the valley of the World Tree.   Since that time, is has grown substantially into a major, thriving city of spiralling white stone towers and angular azure-and-gold decor. The nearby White Stone Cliffs provide much of the materials used in the construction of the buildings, towers, and roadways of the city.   The city itself has many natural elements throughout and the architecture of the various city districts often includes plant life, gardens, and public spaces.

Gruknock Quarter

Starting in the Fifth Age, at the urging of Leader-Elect Reylen Lothered, a new quarter of the capital was established to hold incoming immigrants that began to head to the lands of the elves. This quarter was named the Gruknock Quarter, commonly called the Knocks, in honor of the sacrifice of the Zenethian Hero, Gruknock, Captain of Burland, who died here.

Demographics

In the late Fourth Age, the populace was almost entirely elves. The isolationism of the elves prevented other races from settling in Sorettan lands.   In the Fifth Age, with the changing of elven isolationism, other races have slowly started to settle in some of the cities of Haradren. The new Gruknock Quarter of the city was established to hold incoming immigrants that began to head to the lands of the elves.

History

The Second Age: The Age of the Severance
The elves grew beyond the valley of the World Tree during the Age of the Severance to occupy most of Haradren.   The Galeb Duhr of the White Stone Cliffs welcomed the first elves that came here, as they viewed the elves as creatures in tune with nature and the World Tree. The settlement was named after this interaction "Sarnhén-tul", roughly meaning "stone child approach". In common, this name would eventually become butchered to the modern-day "Soretta".
The Third Age: The Age of Zenethia
At the midpoint of the Third Age, Esturk's attack on the World Tree razed the first city of the elves. After, the seat of government and capital of the country was shifted to Sarnhén-tul, which had grown over the years from the resources to the western half of Haradren.
The Fourth Age: The Age of Shadow
In 4A 995, the Zenethian Heroes met with Leader-Elect Saelerain Laminafond and delivered the Brancan missive. They discussed the quest for the Zenethian Items. Later in 4A 995, the Heroes were escorted back before Saelerain by Sacred Guardian Quarivon, and they were banished from Soretta for trespassing in the World Tree.
The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
Starting in the Fifth Age, at the urging of Leader-Elect Reylen Lothered, the new Gruknock Quarter was established to hold incoming immigrants that began to head to the lands of the elves.
