Königreich of Reikland
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
Though much of modern society is based on the Tremen Culture; magic, astronomy, alchemy, and various alphabets, it is numbers and engineering that are the domain of the Reikonic.
Developing on a large island called @Deh off the coast of Midway, the various Reikonic nations throughout history have been known for their skills in problem solving and metallurgy. None so more than the most recent Reikonic state, the Konigreich of Reikland.
History
Reikland and its predecessors have a history as long and as rich as that of the Tremalking Empire and its successor states.
The Reikonic never betrayed the Vanir, as the giants primarily landed on Tremalking. So instead of pursuing the mysteries of Creation as the Tremen did, the Reikonic perused the mysteries of logic, numbers, and metal. These many years of learning and expansion eventually led to the first Reikonic state; the Hegemony of the Reik, lead by the first Hegemon, Erstenkon Grand.
The Reik expanded and eventually conquered the entirety of their island, forcing the submission of the various tribes and small kingdoms of the region over the course of 30 years.
They wished to expand beyond the confines of their home island of Deheimat. Seeing the wealth and bounty on the two mainlands that surrounded them, they proceeded to colonize the Mettenheim Peninsula on Tremalking, and the southwestern lands on the continent of Middos, now known as Midway.
They eventually came into conflict with the Tremalking Empire, the tribes of the D'shar Desert, and the plains tribes of the Midway coasts, but the Reik had long been masters of metal, being the first culture in the world to discover iron weaponry, and then steel only a few centuries later. They subsumed the tribes, and fought back the Tremalkers, and enjoyed many centuries of exploitation and prosparity.
This wouldn't last in the Fourth Age, as the Scranc hordes put pressure on the Reik to defend their colonies from these vast invaders. Both unable and unwilling to do so, having scaled down their military capacity due to corrupting influences, they fortified their most valuable assets and colonies, leaving the rest for themselves. As well, the still demanded full taxes and tribute, while providing little to no protection.
After years of rebellions and riots, the Reik was unable to hold onto their colonies, and the once vast Hegemony collapsed back into their home island. From then on The Reik, now called the Armerot, was a shadow of its former self; they attempted many wars against the Midway colonies, but never regained their old assets.
During the The Second Fall, Armerot was one of many nations that sought safety at the City of Refuge. The survivors eventually returned home, and reformed their island into the new nation of Reikland, under the rule of the Konig (King) Franz Heizzerman. Today Reikland is a contender on the political scale, eager for a new start and a return to the golden era of the Hegemony.
Military
Being masters of metal and engineering, their military reflects this; most if not all of their troops are equipped with heavy armor, their knights and horses bedecked in full plate, and their ships though wooden, reinforced with steel banding.
They also were the creatures of various mechanical machines of war, such as the first Warforged (though the Melentine stole knowledge of this art from them), the Apparatus of Kwalish, and the first rudimentary cannons. Though they no longer possess the mines of Mettenheim, they still trade with their former colony often for access to Mettenese Steel.
Government
At the head of the government is the Konig, an elected position that is held for life, yet still rules as a monarch. The Konig is chosen from the various Hochadel nobles that rule their various realms in the name of the Konig. The Reikland is a capitalistic society, where merchants have a broader power than in other nations, and can even rise to the rank of Hochadel should their fortunes be favorable.
