James Rhodes
Colonel James Rupert Rhodes (a.k.a. Rhodey, War Machine)
Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes is Tony Stark best friend and the first to learn about his time travel. He learns of it during New Year celebration in 1991, a few weeks after the death of Howard Stark.
Tony comes completely clean with Rhodey and tells him everything(in chunks as it comes up). Rhodey knows about Thanos and Steve Rogers and James Rogers and the real history there. He also knows about the Avengers and the history in the other timeline.
Rhdoey meets James early 1993. They form a bond of mentorship. Rhodey is morein touch with soldiers that are in active duty and thus is closer to James's "age". He also is being trained for leadership potential as a prelude to being the liason with Stark Industries. He uses these lessons to help James calm down and deal with Tony. Rhodey teahced James about how help isn't always a test, and how to cuddle properly.
In 1993 fall/winter, he is given time off from the USAF to track down Tony in California and bring an end to his "retirement". They use this to their advantage. In this time, he suggests to James that it may be to his benefit to take over Security at Stark Industries. James agrees.
During the holidays in 1993, Rhodey introduces Jo Rhodes to the Stark family. Jo, being born Josh, is trying to make her way and her family is struggling with her transition. Rhodey asks Tony for advice and assurance that the future of Trans is better.
Rhodey is busy overseas for the next few years becoming a phenominal Captain. He will be promoted in late 2000 to Major.

Jim Rhodes was born to James and Miriam Rhodes in New York. He has one younger sister. He attended MIT with Tony Stark as a cadet and an engineer.
His famiy is matriarchal, run by his Father's sister, Dolly.

Rhodey finally stood up to them and tol dthem to take a hike. When their cheating came out, Tony defended Rhodey(without telling Rhodey) and the two have been besties ever since.

They met when TOny was 14 on his first day at MIT. TOny was trying to get his orientation wihtout luck due to his age. Rhodey helped him out. Tony later chose Rhodey as his roommate until Rhodey shipped out in 1992. Rhodey told him he was a kid until he could shave. Tony grows a beard to prove he can.
