Þlónó Lake

High-Æjalan: Þlónó /θlouːnouː/
Ælic: Þædon /θaiːtɔn/
Þlónó Lake1 is the largest lake in Þjaris in northwestern Jælondis, the second largest on the continent (after Bexran Lake in Ójom) in general, as well as one of the clearest in Borgalor.
Located north of Harhitó Hills, the lake has been an important source of fish, fowl, clay, reeds and -to lesser extent- otter pelts to the native Þjaric Elves in the region, particularly the Æjalans along its western shores and Æleans to the east, and as such has a number of rituals and folklore associated with it. The frequent mist over Þlónó Lake in particular has inspired tales of all kinds of beings believed to inhabit the water, most famously the rilír or líhlir2, otters that shapeshift into men who enchant people with songs to drown and eat them.

Fauna & Flora

Þlónó Lake is home to numerous species of fish, birds, amphibians and aquatic plants, some of which are endemic, such as moss balls and rare freshwater seals.

Tourism

The lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Æjala, where visitors in the city of Ænla can travel there to go on boat-rides, visit villages, shrines and other notable sites along the shore, watch locals fish with the aid of domesticated cormorants and try the local cuisine.

1Original icelandic: Þlónóvatn.
