Kvaral Marsh
Þrínic: Kvaral /khvaːral~khuaːral/
Kröþic: Varal /ʋaɾaːl/
Þamtic: Þendir /θɛntɪːr/ Þiðic: Anoðig /aːnɔːðɪɣ/
The Kvaral Marsh1 is a vast fresh- and brackish wetland that covers much of the western and southern Þöton Peninsula in the eastern Southlands, bordered by the Þemzó Sea to the east and the Larsis Mountains to the south and southwest. Most of the marsh is controlled by the goblin country of Kröþa, save for the eastern edge which is ruled by elven country of New Þamta.
The latter have set the area aside so that traditional arctolatrists can practice their faith there in peace, which includes surviving out in the wild using nothing but their wits, strength and arcane abilities.

Geography
Hikælúrt, the longest river on the peninsula, flows through the region. Mist frequently shrouds the Kvaral Marsh throughout the year, particularly during the winter, and while the winters are cold, the waters rarely freeze to a large extent except for the southernmost part.
Fauna & Flora
Numerous different species of birds, fish, crustaceans and shellfish inhabit the Kvaral Marsh, along with aquatic and semi-aquatic mammals such as Marsh Stalkers, sea goats and fur seals. Amphitheres were a common sight common along the coast prior to the goblin settlement.
The flora of the Kvaral Marsh has some similarities to our world's plant-life during the Carboniferous (though adapted to far colder environment), including analogues to lepidodendrons and seed ferns, along with various ferns, mosses and conifers (such as podocarps), the latter which are mostly found to the south. Flowering plants, both native ones such as cottonsedge and others like mandrakes and carrots introduced by goblins exist there as well.
Nearly half of all fungi species in the Southlands are found in this region.

Cultural Significance
The fauna and environment of the Kvaral Marsh as well as past conflicts in the region are the source of much folklore among the Kröþans and to lesser extent New Þamtans. Stories of travelers, fishermen and warriors being attacked by strange beasts, outlaws or feral arctolatrists, encountering mysterious lights or music, or finding ancient megaliths are particularly common, which combined with the beauty of the land have been an inspiration for paintings, poetry, novels, movies and games.
