City Defenses
The County of Frisograf is split from east to west by a geomorphic ridgeline called the Chalk Ridge. Though not nearly as tall as the surrounding valley rim, the ridge is steep and difficult to traverse, except on foot. Denebruck is strategically pocketed within the only large pass through the ridge, which the original Count Friso identified as the strategic nexus of the valley-north. Denebruck city-proper is protected by a curtain wall of granite, strung between tower bastions of the same. Three roads load into the city from the East, South, and West; each of which is secured by a fortified gatehouse and local garrison of professional city guard. During peace-time, the gates are normally kept open at all hours. Due to the ongoing conflict, traffic through the southern gate is heavily restricted. The Narrow Gate
The southern approach to Denebruck is the most accessible and open, and also presents the most formidable defenses. The "Narrow Gate" (officially the "South Gate") requires attackers to breach two layers of dwarven-steel portcullises and a gatehouse protected by four towers. If necessary, the inner portion of the gatehouse may be intentionally demolished to further block access. The Chalk Gate
The eastern approach to Denebruck - along the Chalk Road - is more modestly defended. A platoon-sized element of Denebruck Guards mans a gatehouse here, and scrutinizes access to the city.Castle Denebruck
At the center of Denebruck's defenses is Castle Denebruck - the bailey and lord-manor of the Count of Frisograf, Macius Friso III. The castle is the native barracks for the Frisian First Regiment, and is the military headquarters for the Frisograf Corps. The castle is temporarily serving as the regional headquarters for the Harlades Military in Frisograf.Raviern Garrison
The open yards in the center of Denebruck are currently stuffed with the tents and miscellany of the Raviern I Division, which is garrisoning in Denebruck after being driven North by The Concord of Black. Maj. Gen. Mathias Loos - the CO of the Raviern I Division - is the highest ranking Harlades Officer in Frisograf, following the apparent defeat or capture of the Frisograf Corps HQ at Westinde.Chalk Ridge Outposts
The Frisian First Regiment is responsible for manning three outposts along the Chalk Ridge. These outposts each host a company-sized element of mountain infantry, and have a mission to monitor their Area of Responsibility and to dissuade enemy forces from attempting to scale the Chalk Ridge. The Chalk Ridge outposts are currently assigned to the First Denebruck Infantry, 2nd Battalion. The battalion hosts four subordinate companies, which rotate garrisons between the outposts - with one company always serving as a resting-response force. Each company is led by a Captain, and the company HQ includes an attached military arcanist with the ability to cast Sending, to propagate information back to battalion HQ.
