Owlin

Owlin are a birdlike species that inhabit most planes associated with elemental air: those of ice, dust, and storms. Owlin are a diverse bunch, containing dozens of smaller ethnic groups of various sizes, shapes, and cultures. Many owlin believe that they are descendants of Keshava, the goddess of freedom and flight that often takes the form of a black and white hawk. This theory is hotly contested by some aarakocra who claim to the same lineage.   All owlin species originate from the Venat ethnic group, which were blessed with wings in the Age of Anguish to escape their floating prisons and take flight.   While there are some half-owlin, they are very uncommon and almost always also half-aarakocran.   As a result of their ancient history, many owlin are esteemed members of Zivilon society. They hold high military offices or noble titles inherited from their lineages. Outside of Zivilon, however, many owlin of the planes of dust and ice are outcasts or rebels that harbor resentment for the ways of the city, chafing against its many practices.
