Independent Barony of Opasau (Oh-pa-sow)

Structure

The Baron of Opasau Saffmit has absolute power over the people and lands of the Barony. He has a council of advisors, Sontar's Tert Iasdo, who hold land and power within the Barony as well.   The Baronmits of Pike and Alora Homestead are the lords given oversight over the two other major settlements in the Barony. They are both often, but not always, members of the Tert Iasdo. The title and power is hereditary, like the Baron, but the office can be removed from one family and given to another at the whims of the Baron.

Culture

The minority population who live in the city centres of Opasau Saffmit and Alora Homestead are more educated and as of the 2800s BFP, find themselves in a rapidly developing capitalist society. The city dwellers are dedicated to their system of consumerism, using the work of the majority rural population who either aren't bothered by the goings on of the cities, or aren't educated enough to care.

Assets

The Spaceport and Drydock at Alora Homestead is the main import and export centre of the Barony, though the largest markets can be found in the capital, Opasau Saffmit.   The town of Pike, the easternmost settlement in the Barony, has a large timber industry around it. The salvaging of the downed Shetelpail-Class Monitor Luscelnod, destroyed in the Battle over Norlana's Farm, took over a year, and the remaining shell continued to be a hotspot for metal scrappers.   Fort Jop Pike, built over the ruins of Fort Pike, was the main outpost between the Barony and it's neighbour Talopi Xonod.

History

Founding

Qinro Sontar, a mildly successful businessman from Tiann Saffkrix, purchased large swathes of land in the Tradelands in the 2914 BFP with the intent of building a trade outpost there connecting Pike and the farming homesteads in the area. In 2912, he and a company of 250 men, women and children set out to the land and established the town of Opasau Saffmit. By 2909, the town had grown to over 2500 people and had started to turn its first profits on the purchase of the land, 2 years ahead of schedule.   Sontar would declare himself Baron of Opasau Saffmit in 2909, and raised a small private army, Sontar's Rangers, to protect himself and the growing city.

Tianni Civil War

Sontar's War
See Sontar's War.   During the Tianni Civil War, Qinro Sontar III, then Baron of Opasau, set out with his Rangers to expand the territory of the Barony. After a conflict lasting 5 months, a treaty was signed giving the Barony larger territory in return for ceasing their expansion ambitions.
Remainder of the War
Opasau and the Talopi Xonod became close trading partners, and the Barony greatly profited from the Civil War by selling food at exaggerated prices to the Xonod war effort.
