Itzehiel
The Archmagus
Itzehiel is the god of controlled magic and knowledge. He was the first being to shape the magical force, making it do his bidding. During The Age of the Planar Conflict, he like many during that time were desperately looking for ways to keeping themselves safe from the chaos unfolding around them, Itzehiel turned to studying the essence which came to be after Dariël dissolved. This force chaotic and dangerous was eventually tamed by him, making him the first mage. Some hypothesize that this knowledge was imparted to him by Asmodeus himself, a deal which of course backfired. Explaining Itzehiel unydying hatred for these schemeing fiends.
After claiming his dominion over this otherworldly power, Itzehiel, create a portal and made Isle Paguin his seat of power, building a massive tower which reaches higher than any man-made building, and filled the lower levels with magical traps and defenses which no beings thus far have survived. Not far from this divine structure stands the Gate of Arcanus, which is vigilantly watched by Itzhiel, ensuring that no Devil makes it trough his domain.
Itzehiel has made it his lifegoal to collect information, on about everything that does exists, in some regards this resembles Hogesh' quest for forbidden lore which he only shares if it furthers his agenda, but Itzehiel shared this knowledge more freely, but expects knowledge in return. As such he is seen as the god of knowledge and the search thereof, as a consequence many places of learning, both of the arcane and the natural world.
For as long as Itzehiel has resided Isle Paguin he has constantly been the sole individual standing against the ever-present deceit of the the Devils. Guarding the boundaries with the Demonic realms, ensuring these fiends won't get the chance to spread their corrupting influence to the mortals they seek to corrupt.
Sometime during when the Elder-Gods were cleansing the lands from lingering prime essence Itzehiel had collected a significant hereof, keeping this volatile substance in one of his laboratories for further study, this would prove to have been a mistake, as the amazing intellect of Itzehiel combined with the adaptable nature of the essence saw rise to a new type of being, the Beholders. These paranoid beings embody the fears and desires of Itzehiel, unparalleled intellect, combined with unrivaled magic, all while an almost paranoid vigilance ensures the Devils remain under control.
The Faith: Itzehiel's Scholars
Those that follow Itzehiel's do so generally for three reasons, either they seek knowledge and their natural disposition draws them to the promise of knowledge; They wish to uncover the wonders of magic, or they want to face the Devil threat head-on, joining Itzehiel in his divine duty. As such Itzehiel's faith is separated in three distinct chapters:- The Scholars: The chapter comprised out of researchers and explores, united under a desire to understand the world. Often in charge of universities and other places of learning, which in turn fund expeditions to the edges of the world.
- The Arcanists: The chapter comprised out of mages of all walks of life, united under a desire to understand the arcane. All but a few schools of the magic art are run by this chapter, their goal, ensuring mankind has control over the prime force of the world. And further our understanding of this force.
- The Silver Daggers: This chapter is completely devoted to hunting down Devils, their worshippers, and their influence and will ensure by any means that this hold of these fiends is loosened and they're sent back to the The Nine Hells. The somewhat unorthodox ways of this order have earned them the nick-name "Witch-hunters", as these lone hunters deal with schemes and dealing so alien to the common folk their actions are often not understood by those not part of the order. There have been occasions where these zealous defenders of us mortals have mistakenly hunted down those who've practiced magic in more natural ways.
The Temples to Itzehiel
The appearance of temples varies per settlement, depending on which of the three chapters has the largest presence, but the buildings are united in their construction, large windows ins stately building made from dark wood and red-ish stone. The temple will either serve as an instance of learning, either arcane or mundane, or as a headquarter for the silver blade, where they train and recoup. But in any case, the temple has a large central room, the wall is filled with bookshelves, serving both as a library and a place for religious services. In cases where either two chapters have an equal presence or where the temple can't accommodate the number of students required, a secondary building is made to serve as a dedicated place for that chapter.Aspects of the Religion:
Structure: Concentrated Temples of Learning
Activities: Learning about the world, uncovering lost knowledge, mastering magic.
Religious Gesture: Hold your hands in front of you, palms touching, and while opening your hands, like a book, bow your head from your neck.
Mantra: We strive to build a tower, a tower of knowledge.
Relations
As the Itzehiel seeks to dominate the power of magic, which the Observers of Dariël consider their divine force, they have run into conflicts on more than one occasion. Sometimes resulting in protests, or in rare occasions sabotage of places of arcane learning. This sentiment is shared by many of the druidic circles, resulting in some expeditions finding surprising resistance. As Itzehiel want to spread knowledge to those willing to hear it and are worthy takes offence to the schemes of Hogesh, especially those that offer forbidden knowledge. Knowledge should be available to all, not to be hoarded. This is further amplified due to Hogesh's previous dealings with the deceptive Fiends.
