Mountain Dwarves
Also called high dwarves in reference to the delineation of high elves, as well as just generally being called dwarves or true dwarves, especially within their own circles. Mountain dwarves originate from the Miridian Mountains, but essentially all migrated to the Mourningolds for their superior ore veins and greater security. As far as appearance, their skin, eyes, and hair are similar in scope to Miridian humans, though again they are much hairier on average. Their language, East Runic, is perhaps close to the original version. The written form appears mostly the same, but with Old Runic passing out of speech it is impossible to say to what degree the two sound alike.Devoted subjects of Aurillex, presenting him a gift made by one’s own hands in person is the ultimate goal of every young dwarf. The gold dragon’s hoard is comprised primarily of these gifts, the greatest works of each of his children. Beyond worshiping Aurillex, the dwarven cultural fixation on perfection in one’s craft, be it material or not, is a collective philosophy that borders on religious fervor. Each dwarf aspires to be the greatest blacksmith, craftsman, mason, brewer, or soldier ever. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing to the highest possible degree. Perhaps the worst insult to a dwarf would be to call them lazy. This cultural difference leads to significant conflict with the elves and their lack of urgency in most matters.
