Pleasure Row
At the heart of the Jungle and on the edge of the Golden Mist lies the gem and jewel of the island of Therarask: Pleasure Row. Clustered around the red and pink bricks of the streets and illuminated by red and pink lanterns – some secured and others drifting – are various establishments meant to cater to any and all pleasures, desires, and delights. One can find restaurants, brothels and escort services, clubs, dancing halls, theaters, and more. If your heart has a desire... Pleasure Row can and will fulfill it.
Pleasure Row is a massive, sprawling town with roads of red and pink brick. The streets are lined with giant pink and red lanterns that drift freely or hang from ornately carved handles extending into the street from various buildings. When the sun is out, the lanterns remain dormant, but when the moon rises, they cover the whole city in a beautiful red-pink glow. Traces and threads of the nearby Golden Mist often drift down through the streets, coming to rest on the pavement and creating the illusion of the streets being flecked or inlaid with bits of gold. Vines, trees, and jungle flora line the streets, but are kept neat as to not obstruct the few of the various establishments. There is a unity between structure and jungle here. In all its years, Pleasure Row has not once been overrun by the ever changing, every growing Jungle.
While a relatively large town, Pleasure Row is very much a walking city. The thick Jungle beyond the city limits has prevented the influx of technology such as arcane skiffs, but the placement of most establishments on top of or near another makes such technology unnecessary. Furthermore, Pleasure Row has expanded upwards when it could no longer expand outward. As such, the city is composed of multiple levels. Walkways run on the ground and via secured rope bridges decorated with lanterns and metal trinkets that sound akin to wind chimes when wind or people move across them. One can always find the locals in the streets – above or on the ground – attempting to lure and entice tourists and other locals into their establishments. Surely, you can find the pleasure you seek here!
Locals of Pleasure Row mostly live in more apartment-style homes on top of the businesses where they work. Some, however, do have small homes located on the outskirts, away from the hustle and bustle at its center. Pleasure Row is, after all, a city that seemingly never ceases with something open at any hour. You should, after all, always be able to seek out a delight, no matter the time! The coordination between businesses to ensure that all genres of entertainment have at least one establishment open at all times seems impossible given the lack of any formal political body. What regulation they do have – even as diffuse as it is – seems sufficient to keep the area moving quite efficiently.
The Gardens and Amphitheater of Eros
Positioned between the rest of Pleasure Row and the Golden Mist is a garden and amphitheater. Colorful flora lines the edge, parting only to permit tourists to wander down the steps to sit amidst the stone benches of the old amphitheater. In the original days of Pleasure Row, this outdoor theater was used to present performances to the Golden Mist in the hope that the God of Pleasure would permit their return to the Volcano base. Now, however, it serves as a place of quiet where people can sit, enjoy picnics, and watch the Golden Mist dissipate and float over their heads and through the streets of Pleasure Row.
At the center and base of the Amphitheater is a large marble statue, standing well over 10 feet tall and supported by a 5-foot marble base covered in vines and flowers. Eros, a priest and artist of Therarask who lived before the creation of the calendar, carved the statue. According to history (or myth, perhaps), he carved the statue with marble that he obtained from his journey into the Golden Mist and used paints imbued with illusion magic to cover the statue. Now, the statue of Therarask adopts a different form every day.

The "Ruling" Organization of Pleasure Row
In theory, there exists the Coalition of Escort, Entertainment, and Pleasure Clubs (C.E.E.P.C.). Who sits on the Coalition and who is in charge is generally up for debate to say the least. Most assume that the Coalition simply employs a flexible and fluid membership system and that it is overseen by the Hidden Ruler of Therarask.
The Coalition does enfroce a set of rules that can generally be reduced down to the following:
Although gold prices are posted, it is up to the service provider and receiver to negotiate alternative terms, if desired, such as an exchange of services or an exchange of goods. These commitments are commonly documented, but a hearing of the clubs can still be called in their absence if one party believes that they have been cheated.
The Coalition does enfroce a set of rules that can generally be reduced down to the following:
- Seek Your Pleasure – Pleasure Row is a place for one to seek their pleasures and delights, not to wallow in your woes!
- Do Not Hinder the Pleasure of Others – One should not seek to deny someone their pleasure, especially if it deals no harm to another nor interferes with another's pleasure. If there is a concern, discussion and communication must be established to resolve.
- Consent is Imperative – Workers, locals, and tourists alike are expected to request, discuss, and honor consent in any and all things.
- Respect the Jungle, Respect the Golden Mist –Both are extensions of the God of Pleasure and should be treated with equivalent respect.
