Alsha Isle

Alsha is both an island and a city (Alsha City) that operates autonomously from established nations. It is located in the Shaniz Sea, off the coast of The Wildlands.

Geography

Alsha Isle is a the largest island location off the shores of the continent. It is comprised of high, steep mountains covered with thick vegetation and an abundance of wildlife. The ocean often teams with fish throughout the year in the deep ocean but fishing can be a dangerous occupation with the rocky shores and many cliffs. Within the mountainous interior all the way to the coastline, tunnels and cave systems twist and turn. Many are natural features of long dried up underground rivers.

Natural Resources

Within the thick jungles plants and animals of many varieties can be found. Minerals are sometimes mined from the ground and fishing is a very steady trade.

History

This was untouched by habitation for centuries until Gylanese, after signing the treaty with Chadavar and establishing the colony of Ishedore, discovered it in 790 CE. Alsha was established as an outpost for the growing power of Gylanese and flourished for many decades due to the bountiful resources. But it never held strong ties to the western power, being all the way across the continent. When Gylanese collapsed in 1047 CE, Alsha declared itself an independent city, wanting nothing to do with either the disorganized nations of Mienchola or the Cinane Islands to the north or fellow former colony Ishedore to the south.    Since then it has been an independent city, growing wealthy off the sea trade and island resources. This history though is far from complete. Most beyond the island do not know this, but ancient ruins abound the mountains and the underground caverns. Such ruins have mostly laid, unexplored and untouched. The locals tell tales of lost treasure and ancient dangers that lurk within the systems.
