Orcs

Orcs are a race of humanoids known for their brutal, war-like nature and their powerful physique. Originating from the frozen northern wastes and the harsh deserts of the east, the orcs are a proud, tribal race that places a strong emphasis on strength and prowess in combat. They are typically tall and heavily muscled, with a rugged, primal appearance that is accented by their distinctive tusks, snarling jaws, and thick, hairy bodies.

Orcs are organized into small, tightly-knit tribes that are led by powerful chieftains. These tribes are fiercely territorial and will defend their lands against any perceived threat with unmatched ferocity. Despite their reputation for violence and aggression, orcs are also highly social creatures, with a deep sense of loyalty and community that is central to their way of life.

In combat, orcs are incredibly formidable, wielding crude but effective weapons and armour made from stone, bone, and metal. They are also highly skilled in the art of war, using tactics and formations that are honed through generations of experience and bloodshed. Despite their brutal nature, orcs are also highly intelligent, with a deep understanding of their environment and the world around them.

Despite their reputation as savage, brutal creatures, orcs are not without their own unique cultural traditions and beliefs. Most tribes worship either Goz'Rah, the orcish interpretation of the god of nature, or an ancient god known to the Orcs as Pat'Rah, God of War and conflict. They also have a rich oral tradition, passing down their history, customs, and beliefs from generation to generation through the telling of epic stories and legends.

In conclusion, the orcs are a fierce and formidable race, driven by their primal instincts and a deep sense of pride in their heritage. While their brutal nature and territorial instincts often bring them into conflict with other races, they are also a proud and noble people, with a rich cultural heritage and a deep connection to the land and their gods.

Civilization and Culture

Courtship Ideals

Courting for Orcs is similar to the other races of Kandalas, naturally through the course of their day to day lives individuals of a similar mind and nature gravitate towards each other. As the bond grows between the pair and if the deem each other compatible, they may wish to elevate the relationship to the next level, usually for the purposes of child rearing. Once this decision has been made, the female of the pair will issue a challenge to the male.

As there is significantly less dimorphism between the sexes (Muscle mass is almost identical between a male and female), this challenge may be anything, a test of Strength, Dexterity or Endurance, to subdue the female in combat if she is a prestigious warrior, anything the female deems is a worthy challenge for their partner to prove their worth not only to their prospective partner, but to the tribe as a whole. Tribal life is challenging and ever changing, thus the female does not put forth an easy challenge because she may feel a deep connection with her future partner, as whilst she is incapacitated due to carrying the infant, she must be confident that her partner is more than capable of protecting themselves as well as her through the term of the pregnancy. As such, the challenge set, whilst within the realms of possibility, is always extremely difficult or dangerous whilst also completing a task that the female sees as being a boon to the tribe.

Upon successful completion of the trial, a great feast will be held in honour of the new couple and a period of several days is set aside for the pair to "enjoy" the new relationship. It is in this period that the pair will normally conceive their first child.

Relationship Ideals

Once bonded, a pair normally bond for life, with only real things being able to break the bond being a death of one of the partners or a significant betrayal by one of the partners to the other partner or the tribe as a whole.  If for any reason the bond is broken, it is normal for the remaining partner to never take another partner, though occasionally this may be the case, particularly if the individual is still young and a sort after partner.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Letting is a coming of age celebration held yearly on neutral ground. Waring factions will call and hold to a truce for the period and congregate on uncontested soil meaning it is rarely held in an established city or community. The event consists of mostly martial contests such as wrestling, duels and team combats and it is not uncommon for full mock battles to be held with injury common but death rare. Stands and spectating areas surround the arenas built specifically to see the best of these events. Each arena has varying terrain and simulated conditions, making quite the spectacle, with slaves and beasts often used to add to the festivities. Because orcs will always fight as fair and with as much honour as reasonably possible, as such the slaves and beasts are usually armed and armoured to present a reasonable challenge.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Pets:
Orcs view taming a desert drake as a sign of supremacy amongst the tribes, as they are one of the most dangerous beasts in the sun-baked tundra's. These beasts, if tamed, are indispensable to the orcs that have tamed them. They give their masters an inescapable edge both when hunting and in battle against the enemies of the tribe.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Least liked race: Goblins
As the previous history of rebellion by the scrawny slave race is a stain on their pride but they have a healthy respect for the little creatures for the furious and cunning nature of the bloody rebellion.

Export: Spice, Ivory and Mercenaries
Mercenary work is commonly undertaken by younger or less able orcs as the fittest are reserved for the personal guard and raiding parties of the tribal leaders. The nature and physique of orcs are sought after and seen as a mark of wealth and strength by traders as one must impress an orc or otherwise gain the favour of the tribal leader before an orc will work for someone.
With a strong connection to nature and access to harsher environments than the softer races comes recourses that can come from nowhere else, counterintuitively with the frozen northern wastes producing burning spice and the harsh deserts of the east supplying soothing natural remedies. But the supply of ivory is a most brutally guarded secret with it being supplied from both the white waists and burning sands. Its abnormally high quality and wildly varying size have made it impossible for outsiders to determine what it comes from.
