Bistan

"The Dragon of the Desolation must be slain, he bears the wrath. The Dragon will be slain and I must be the one who does it. I will return to this shore someday and I will bring peace to all of the Desolation." Bistan

The God of Mitari

It is difficult to spend much time on Mitari and not hear about Bistan, the God Prophet of the Desolation and his return. The Grand Duchy of Bistan was formed around him and his worship. A church can be found in most cities of Mitari and its priests are in every court.

The Wanderer and the Storm

It is said that Bistan was born in the desolation around 141 but the holy texts aren't clear. In 167, an elven man wandered into the city of Ladril ahead of a Desolation storm that threatened to destroy the city itself. The wanderer saw an old woman sitting on her porch, watching the storm approach. When he asked the old woman if she would mind company, she replied that her husband had fled and his chair, beside her, was available. The wanderer sat with her for some time watching the storm. She fetched them both wine and bread. He asked why she was still in town since everyone else had left to find safety. She replied that her great grandfather helped found this town and had never left and she did not fear the storm. The wanderer asked why she didn't fear it and she replied that the Gods' wrath left upon this land, was not meant for her or this land and would leave her be. The wanderer brushed himself off, stood, and told her, "What you say is correct, today however the storm has carried me to you. Bear witness as your words and faith become truth." The wanderer made his way to the edge of town, waved his hands at the storm and it dissipated into the ground. He waved his hands across the ground in front of him and drew the warp from it into himself. The wanderer glowing with energy returned to the porch, to the wine and bread. He stayed there at the behest of the old woman until the townsfolk returned. They gathered around the home until the wanderer came out to speak to them. He said, "It is from the warp I have come, from the leftover wrath of the Gods. Witness for yourself, my blood is their blood and I will bring peace where they have left wrath. The faith of this woman saved your town, her courage opposed to your cowardice." He thanked the old woman and wandered back into the Desolation. When the people asked who the wanderer was, the woman said "He told me his name was Bistan." Bistan's first miracle was saving the city of Ladril. The town was no longer on the edge of the Desolation, as it had been pushed back as far as the eye could see.

Miracles

From there the wanderer known as Bistan began to appear in cities all across the edge of the Desolation, near Sealon and to nearby caravans in trouble. He performed many miracles and acts of great kindness for the people of Sealon struggling to exist in difficult times. He expanded the area known as Sealon many times, by purging the Desolation. Sealon was considered one of the Fairlands of Mitari but only loosely. There were many instances of the land changing or revealing the warp for a season or two and then returning. There was little the Sealon council of mages could do to help the people without the support of the empires of the second Epoch, the Kil’han's support, and the enraged seas. The second major miracle of Bistan was the purifying of the Infernal Gardens. The gardens were raging, as they called it, and the Great Troll was out demanding his sacrifice. Bistan met the Troll inside the garden, seeing a handful of villagers in the Troll's oversized basket. "The scars of this land will no longer plague its people. The Gardens will be at peace and you will slumber within forever. Be at peace." Bistan said. The two battled briefly before Bistan prevailed. He waved his hands across the woods and drew the warp into himself, purifying the Gardens. The villagers returned to their homes, telling the story.

The Fall of Sealon

After the second miracle, Bistan's followers grew and grew. As Bistan began making his way throughout Sealon cleansing the land, the provinces began to look for different leadership. There were two followers of Bistan from Ladril, the site of the first miracle, who recorded his words and deeds. Hiram Galarina and Elegnos Yraudhen were the first adherents. As the faith grew, the two adherents began to switch places, one would follow and witness while the other would go out and spread the faith. Elegnos was particularly good at organizing and began to build the religion now known as Adherents of Bistan. The people of Sealon began to swarm to the Adherents for guidance and leadership. The first of the provinces fell and the mage was replaced by a priest. As soon as one fell, many began to topple and the mages towers became churches of Bistan. Bistan was seldom anywhere near a province when it was overthrown and there are no known records of him being involved with any violence of this revolution. The revolution did not go unnoticed.

Faith and War

The Murtisian Principality was aware of the weakness of Sealon and watched as it fell to peasants. With no army to speak of, they decided to take the Sealon fairlands as their own. They dispatched their navy across the Sound and through the Desolation to take the land. It was then a great storm appeared over the Desolation. It followed the soldiers across the desolation and this ships across the sound. Every booted soldier that stepped into Sealon was struck down by the storm and every boat the landed there was capsized by the same storm. The Murtisian Mages who tried to control the storm withered and died. Half the army and most of the navy was lost before the retreat was called. There was no further loss of life but the storm followed and did not dissipate until they were back in their own territory. The Storm of Bistan is the third miracle. Weakened by the storm Zuriak and Cantorium were able to drive back the Murtisians out of their territory.

The Church

Bistan continued to make his way around Sealon, speaking at churches, and purifying the ground. Sealon's territory nearly doubled during his wanderings. As the Church grew in followers and power, the other kingdoms began to take notice and they asked about this new following. Adherent Elegnos became the leader of the church, while Adherent Hiram never left Bistan's side.

The Dragon and the Prophet

There came a day when Sealon had been cleansed and Bistan rested. He rested and taught in what is now Bellgarde. He stayed in a simple tent as the city grew up around him. Followers came from all around to hear his teachings. He could be found in front of his tent or at the ocean looking over at the Isle of the Gods across the Sound. After being at rest for a year, it became obvious to those of Bellgarde, Bistan was planning to wander again. There was great excitement in the air and in the followers. He took Hiram aside and told him to get a boat and take him to the isle. He told Hiram, "The Dragon of the Desolation must be slain, he bears the wrath. The Dragon will be slain and I must be the one who does it. I will return to this shore someday and I will bring peace to all of the Desolation." Hiram did as he was told and took Bistan to the Isle. The battle on the Isle could be seen from every shore as the Great Wyrm of the Desolation fought the storm. For 4 days and nights, it went on then was suddenly silent. Hiram searched the isle for weeks but Bistan could not be found nor the dragon. Hiram would return to Bellgarde for supplies, then go back to the isle. One day his boat never returned. The Sound was renamed in honor of Hiram, to Saint Hiram Sound . The Isle was indeed purified from the Desolation and was declared holy ground by the Grand Duchy of Bistan.  The adherents wait for his return and fulfillment of his profecies.
