Queen Metylda Matyus

Queen Metylda Matyus, born Metylda of Renda, was queen of Jeltir from her marriage to King Himnerith Matyus in 875 until his death in 887. She was mother of Prince Roze, Princess Bria, and Prince Agamnis Matyus.   Metylda was born a peasant, the only daughter of a hay seller to survive childhood. She was met during the daily market by King Himnerith, who had been traveling incognito through the villages nearest to Hemejdd and was smitten immediately. Some stories claim he revealed himself and proposed on the spot, while others purport that he returned to see her two more times. In any case, they were married less than a month later. Several poems and songs were written of Metylda's ecstatic beauty.   Metylda resided in the palace of Hemejdd with her children until the death of Roze, her eldest, at which point she, Bria, and Agamnis moved to an estate owned by the crown in Daranvir.
