Silune

Silune is a large ruined city, previously the capital of the kingdom of Gaulvista, located directly north of where the River Velter empties into the sea. The city is largely built into rock on the coast and is filled with gentle hills and has various canals running through it as well. The stone structures themselves are universally acclaimed as the perfect mixture of beauty and strength, characterized by frequent towering spires and arches in all the streets. The pale grey stone used in all the architecture gives the city a somber atmosphere.   Silune was overtaken by drow in the wake of the Eventide and has been a center of great turmoil ever since, with many factions battling for control of it and parts of it being destroyed over the years.

History

Silune has stood since the EC 3900s, and before the Eventide, its walls were breached a scant few times. It has been besieged by a variety of hostile forces, including sahuagin, orcs, and, perhaps most notably, dragons. During the Great Shadow, the ancient green dragon Ikshegehiil claimed the city as his own, and refused to relinquish his control even after the darkness lifted. It was six years later that the legendary elven hero Millaskir the Tireless challenged and killed him, liberating Silune at last from his grip, though Millaskir also perished in the struggle, and many small battles followed that year between the citizens of Silune and the surviving cultists of Ikshegehiil. The city was in a terrible ruinous state and was almost entirely rebuilt after the struggle, though some parts were left untouched as pieces of history.   The city was taken by nightbringer invaders on June 20th of EL 1000, when they seized the castle and held the royal family as ransom for the entire kingdom. This ransom held for several months and finally crumbled when the Gaulvistan natives erupted into widespread and open rebellion following the execution of King Aaravel Ashamë and Queen Cemrorelle Ashamë, which in turn followed the defeat of Mavislak the Blood-eyed in Battle of Geldereth.

Architecture

Silune is notable in that it is made overwhelmingly from stone, primarily granite and limestone. Even dwarven architects have been impressed by the effectiveness of the building designs, which have lasted for over 900 years thus far and are projected to stand for at least one more elven lifetime with minimal upkeep.
