The Church of the Twin Gods
This religion has existed on Ember for as long as humans have. It is thought that they brought it over from where ever they came from themselves. The church holds some political sway, and has largely been a force for good in the world, claiming inspiration from their Gods, Alva and Tethyr. The church of the Twin Gods reviles Kozic, the chained god, and seek to root out and destroy his followers and influence where ever it might appear.
Structure
The church has a leader, that being a divinely chosen speaker for the Twin Gods. The current speaker is 15 year old Drys of house Allivar. Under the Speaker are the priests of the order, being split into priests of Alva and priests of Tethyr. They listen to what the Speaker has to say, and then decide how best to implement it. Under the priests of each order are Acolytes, clerics, and Paladins. Acolytes tend to the churches, assist the poor and needy, and offer services to the public. Clerics and Paladins are often members of the Knights of the Twin Gods, and are sent to deal with evils that threaten the kingdom. Clerics who are not members of the order will often oversee churches and offer services to the public.
Culture
Those who affiliate themselves with the Church of the Twin Gods act in order to preserve their civilization and its people.
Public Agenda
The church strives to help the poor and needy, spread good in the world, and combat evil. They will do all in their power to fight against threats to the realm, especially if they believe that the threat comes from the followers of Kozic, the chained god.
Assets
The church is sponsored by the Embershade Counsel and the Crown, and also receives many resources via donation from wealthy guilds and nobles. They use the money to build and maintain churches and shrines, support their clergy, and help the poor and needy. They have a store of supplies and are quite wealthy, but their wealth is used only to support the kingdom. It has a a knightly order, holdings all over the kingdom such as churches, shrines, temples, and a fortress that the knights of the twin gods use as headquarters.
History
The Church of the Twin Gods was brought into Ember by Humans. It has always strove to support those who seek to do good, and combat corruption and evil. The Church has grown with the Little Kingdom, being based in Hearth Home. When the Embershade Alliance was founded, the church found it was able to spread to more areas. Its following is almost exclusively humans, as many other races have traditions that deny the existence of gods on Ember all together.
Military
The Church of the Twin Gods has a small force consisting of knights, paladins, and clerics, known as the Order of the Twin Gods. They are dispatched to face threats to the kingdom and to combat evil, especially when it takes the form of the cult of the chained god.
Mythology & Lore
It is believed among the scholars of the church that Alva and Tethrys are members of a pantheon of Gods from another world. That world was consumed by a cosmic war that destroyed the other gods and most of the inhabitants of that world. When the Imperium shattered, Kozic, the God of corruption, fled to Ember, and Alva and Tethyr followed. A group of humans slipped in with them, though whether on purpose or as a side effect is unknown. Though it is unclear what happened to that other world, it is generally believed that without the last of its divine power, it collapsed in on itself, and no longer exists. When the gods arrived on Ember, they found that the gateway had closed behind them. Eventually the Twin gods tracked down Kozic and chained him with powerful magics. They then turned their attention to humanities budding civilization, and vowed to help it along in any way that they could.
Divine Origins
The Church of the Twin Gods originates with humanity, and has existed on Ember for as long as they have. It has been a guiding factor in the creation and organization of the Little Kingdom from the beginning.
Tenets of Faith
The church teaches that to do good is the foundation of civilization. To uphold one another and rise in unity. They teach two sets of tenants, each meant to balance the other. The faith of Alva teaches that goodness is personal and individual, and that every person must strive to be the best they can be. The faith of Tethyr teaches that justice and order maintain civilization, and laws are created to keep people safe and happy. It also teaches to watch out for corrupt laws and lawmakers, and advises the population to be active in their governance so as to avoid corruption.
Ethics
The Church urges others to always consider their communities as a whole when deciding what the right thing to do is. Acts of good that are misinformed or lead to harm are dismissed with a reprimand, but intentional acts of harm and corruption are considered vile.
Worship
Worship in this religion is not like other religions. Few people pray to the Twin Gods, but instead try to live their lives to honor what they stand for by bettering the world at large. There are many cultural rituals performed to help remember the Twin Gods, and to strive to do their will.
Priesthood
The Church of the Twin Gods is led by a Speaker, chosen at birth, who speaks with the voice of the twin gods, and can direct the church to their will. Under the Speaker are the priests of the faithful of Tethyr and Alva, who interpret and implement the will of the Speaker.
Granted Divine Powers
The Twin gods are not gods in reality, but leaders and guides, avatars of good. Their divinity was stripped from them when they entered Ember, and as such they cannot grant divine power. The closest they get is the Speaker for the Twin Gods, a person that receives revelation from them. Occasionally, they will also form a relationship similar to that of a warlock and their patron. Because they do not have a divine portfolio, they cannot grant any sort of power from a divine force. They can, however, grant powers that come from their own essence as beings of creation.
Political Influence & Intrigue
The Church of the Twin Gods has always been an integral part of the Little Kingdom, guiding it from the start. The opinions of the church are not lightly dismissed, and the speaker can appoint a representative to serve on the Embershade Counsel.
