Yacine Haxhi
Prince Yacine Haxhi
Yacine Haxhi was born to one of Besnik Haxhi's most favored concubines, and in the same year as one of his half-brothers, Nuri Haxhi. Throughout their childhood, Nuri and Yacine possessed an intense rivalry for attention and resources, in which Yacine typically triumphed. He was stronger, faster, and seemed to be overall more masculine and worthy of his father's praise. When he entered adulthood, he immediately joined up with a corsair crew and began joining in raids against the Jakonian mainland.
Unfortunately, in 995 AF, the corsair ship that Yacine had taken command of was intercepted by the Imperial Navy of Jakonia. Outnumbered nearly five to one and ambushed, Yacine's ship was destroyed and his crew slaughtered, becoming badly wounded himself. He was taken in captivity to Pinellas, where he was held for ransom. For eight years, the ransom was nonforthcoming, as negotiations were dragged out between the agents of Andros and the representatives of the emperor. During that time he was subjected to the harsh realities of prison life, frequently beaten and tortured by other inmates and the guards. In 1004 AF, he was at last released to Andros, a changed and bitter man.
Having fallen out of favor with his father, in favor of Nuri, Yacine found himself essentially exiled and banished from the court, particularly with the death of his mother while he was imprisoned. Nonetheless, in an attempt to curry favor once again, he took up the corsair's sword and headed out to sea. Unfortunately, his voyages seemed blighted with misfortune, constantly running into Imperial and Augustinian ambushes and ships, but his talent and ferocity eventually carried the day. Never again willing to be taken prisoner, Yacine proved himself in battle time and again, defeating even the largest ambushes set for him.
In 1013, it seemed that his skill and preseverence were at last ready to be rewarded, as he was ascended to the position of Prince. Rather than the lucrative raiding port of Iirada, however, he was instead assigned to be the Prince of Kongo, a backwater post most involving the care and observation of slaves. As a dutiful son, he attended to his new post, where he began once more nursing a grudge against the rest of the courts, but at last finding time to find a wife and start establishing his own harem. He has constantly voiced suspicions and grievances towards Nuri, who he is widely known to suspect of arranging much of Yacine's misfortune through his life, but evidence has never surfaced.
With Mukarrib Besnik at last on his death bed or close to it, Yacine is one of the closest contenders to assume the position next, once again competing with Nuri. No one is quite sure who will emerge on the top, whether it will be the warrior or the spy.
