Pantoran General Goods

The General Store in Pantoran Village is a modest, practical establishment, tailored to the needs of the local villagers rather than travelers.
The General Store is a bustling center of commerce, offering a wide variety of goods needed by the villagers. The store is a spacious building with wooden shelves and displays filled with an assortment of items, from everyday necessities to unique curiosities. The storekeeper, a cheerful Tiefling with golden eyes and a welcoming smile, manages the shop with efficiency. The store's inventory includes farming tools, basic household goods, clothing, handcrafted items, and, notably, the village's famous floral candies. The interior is well-organized, with a cozy atmosphere and a warm, inviting glow from lanterns hanging overhead. The general store serves as a focal point for the village, providing a place for villagers to purchase supplies, and catch up on local news. ~Rummi the Bard

Purpose / Function

A place for villagers to trade and barter for any supplies that have come in from The Pantoran Tiefling Carnival or been made in the village itself.  Few travelers and merchants stop in Pantoran Village, but when they do, there is a small selection of goods that they might desire.

Architecture

Its architecture reflects the village's emphasis on functionality and simplicity, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

Exterior:

Structure: The store is a small, single-story building constructed primarily from locally sourced timber, with a stone foundation that raises it slightly off the ground. The wood has a natural, weathered appearance, with the grain visible and knots adding character to the exterior. The stone foundation, made from smooth, round river stones, provides stability and a subtle, rustic charm.   Roof: The roof is gently sloped, covered in overlapping wooden shingles that have aged to a deep, earthy tone. The eaves extend slightly beyond the walls, providing some shelter from the rain and snow, and adding a touch of quaintness to the structure. Moss grows along the shaded areas, giving the building a lived-in, natural feel.   Windows: The windows are small and rectangular, just large enough to let in light but still retain the building's cozy, secure atmosphere. They are framed in simple wooden casings, with thick, slightly wavy glass panes that add to the building's rustic charm. Wooden shutters are mounted on the exterior, painted a muted green that blends with the surrounding foliage, and are often kept open during the day.   Doors: The main entrance is a sturdy wooden door, made from the same timber as the rest of the building. It features simple iron fittings and a wooden latch that clicks satisfyingly when opened or closed. The door is slightly worn from years of use, with a smooth, rounded handle that fits comfortably in the hand. A small, hand-painted sign above the door reads "General Goods" in a neat, legible script.

Interior:

Layout: Inside, the store is compact but efficiently organized. The layout is straightforward, with shelves lining the walls and a central aisle leading from the door to the counter at the back. The shelves are made from sturdy wood, crafted by local carpenters, and are stocked with an assortment of essential goods—everything from dried foods and spices to basic tools, cloth, and household items.   Lighting: The interior is softly lit by a few oil lamps hanging from the ceiling beams, which provide a warm, golden glow. The light creates a cozy atmosphere, illuminating the wooden walls and the items on the shelves, while leaving the corners slightly shadowed, adding to the store's intimate feel.   Ceilings: The ceiling is low, with exposed wooden beams running across it. These beams are darkened with age and smoke, adding to the rustic charm of the space. Herbs and dried flowers are hung from the beams, a practical way of storing them while also contributing to the store's earthy, welcoming scent.   Counter: At the back of the store is a small, simple wooden counter where the shopkeeper, a friendly and familiar face in the village, conducts business. Behind the counter, there are more shelves stocked with small, valuable items like candles, spices, and handmade trinkets. A well-worn ledger and a small coin box sit on the counter, reflecting the store’s importance as a place of trade and barter within the village.   Flooring: The floor is made of wide, wooden planks that creak softly underfoot, adding to the store’s homey, lived-in feel. The wood has been smoothed over time by the many footsteps of villagers coming and going, creating a warm, inviting surface.

Surrounding Area:

Porch: The store features a small, covered porch at the front, just large enough for a bench where villagers might sit and chat while waiting for the shop to open or after making their purchases. The porch is bordered by a simple wooden railing and a few potted plants, adding a touch of color and life to the entrance.   Storage Shed: To one side of the building, there is a small storage shed, built from the same materials as the store itself. This shed is used to store bulk goods and supplies, keeping the main store stocked and ready for the villagers' needs.
