Structure

The Country has been controlled by a Duli Leese for over 1500 years and the Mountain Star religious sect is still the only major institution in the country. Their culture is ancient and unchanging. There is no external influence in the country bar casual contacts. The country has never been invaded and remains on good terms with all of its neighbours.   The country is the religious centre of the whole Banay area (which roughly covers the southern states of Inkister, Amlin, Roulo, Sayar, and Eaton.)   A Duli Leese Rules for life once she is appointed by the "Great Gathering". The new Duli Leese child is chosen for the role after the death of the previous Duli Lees after an extensive search for the chosen child. It is not known exactly how they choose the female child Duli Leese however once she is chosen at about the age of 15 years, the enthronement ceremony takes 6 months to complete.   The Country uses the Star Calendar which is usually only used in the magical nations of the The Continent of Zerebim. This is due to its close economic relationships with the Zerbim nations.

Culture

The culture of the country is focused upon the maintenance of the monastic system and the study of knowledge and religious teachings. All children receive free schooling up to the age of 16 and then about 40% of the public end up working in some way for the religious associated organisations, making it the centre of all life in the country.

History

The Empire of Batan is an old empire on ancient lands that have hosted many empires throughout time. Batan today is a spiritual centre and home of an ancient pathway between the Mystic North and the main Karnak lands to the south.

Demography and Population

The Batan population mainly belong to the race of people called the Magell People, (about 95%), who are one of the four races living in the great Bulhenian Mountains. The others are Ineon People , Soana People and Ercul People.

Territories

The country rests on the western side of the Bulhenian Mountains, on the upper slopes of the high country. Its inaccessibility has made the country insular and not of any particular strategic interest to others. It is usually snowbound for 6 months of the year.

Military

No military exist and only a small police force patrol the cities.

Technological Level

The clergy from the Mountain Star religion are responsible for the naming and recording of the Star Calendar. A document with great significance to religious and scientific scholars in the region. This is done through star observation and mathematical calculations and is a highly respected science.

Religion

The religious order the Mountain Star is not just the religion of Batan, but it is actually Batan in its fullest extent. The religious order is the nation-state and the holy land is the land of Batan.    The religious order believes in life eternal and that there is a core "Presence" within all bodies and this is transferred into another entity after we pass. This is true for all living life so all life needs to be respected.

Foreign Relations

Batan does not have foreign embassies as such, but they use the Mountain Star infrastructure to act as a touchpoint with other governments. This is especially with the Banay area states which roughly covers the southern states of Inkister, Amlin, Roulo, Sayar, and Eaton.

Agriculture & Industry

Farming livestock is common in Batan. This is mainly the high altitude Goats, Sheep and Cattle. There is also Tubas and bulbs that are commonly farmed then preserved. Dairy products are also very widespread.

Trade & Transport

Trade and transport are mainly limited to the summer months over most of Batan, with only the most southern valleys traversable all year round. Most transport is by horseback or cattle trains with the rivers usually too dangerous for river traffic.
