Looreese Monastery

The Looreese Monastery is a very old settlement and has been in existence in some form for over 6500 years. It has always been since its founding a centre for religious studies and pilgrimages for the people of the region.  The religious land around Looreese Monastery is said to begin from wherever you can first see the gold towers of the Monastery. The small bridge over the River of Truth at the entrance to the Monastery is said to purify one's thoughts as you cross over it. 
It became the house of government when Batan gained national status in 13640. 

Demographics

Only full-time religious leaders of the Mountain Star religious sect and associated staff can live full time in the Monastery. People who are visiting the monastery can only stay on the first level of the complex or by invitation only can entre the main building. The other buildings on the 1st and 2nd levels are closed to the general public.

Government

The 40 Highest members of the Mountain Star operate as a de facto parliament, as they set rules for a society that become religious cannon. The public can influence the process by lobbying individual members. If the council is tied on any issue the Duci Leese can cast a deciding vote.

Industry & Trade

The city can only have trade access over the warmer half of the year as the roads and passes are fully blocked over the winter months by the heavy snow in the region. This has forced the city to have a flurry of activity over half the year with the other 6 months reserved for quiet indoor activities. The storerooms of the city are large to enable 6 months of no fresh food.
