The Order of the Gauntlet

"When evil strikes, we strike back."

The Order are a tight knit group of knights that span Faerun and whose sole aim is to fight evil wherever it arises. They are relevantly young organisation and since their founding a hundred years ago, their history has been of epic deeds and heroic actions, not all victories but always on the side of good against evil. Governed by a strict code of honor and consider themselves a true brotherhood, taking great pride in themselves, their mission and each other. They believe entirely in punishing evil action, not intent - they bring justice and redemption and will never strike preemptively.   Made up mostly of Fighters, Paladins & Clerics, they are a close knit Order where honour, integrity and loyalty are as important traits as fighting and spell casting ability, if not more so. These men and women dedicate their life to the vanquishing of evil and can be found travelling the land in bands or parties, accepting quests as they go like the Orders of old or in the formation of local chapters where they will seek to protect a locality and train the next generation of Knights.  

Beliefs

  • Faith is the greatest weapon against evil—faith in one’s god, one’s friends, and one’s self.
  • Battling evil is an extraordinary task that requires extraordinary strength and bravery
  • Punishing an evil act is just. Punishing an evil thought isnot.
 

In the Moonsea

The Order has had some success in establishing a few Chapters in the Moonsea, however this has been done with the tacit understanding that the Order does not interfere with the region’s politics and focuses its activities on rooting out more “traditional” sources of evil. This has created a lot of friction in the Order and relations are cool, teetering on hostile, between the city states & the bands of Knights in their territories. Souring relations further are rumours of disquiet amongst the Orders ranks and even of “rogue” bands who are actively working against the "evil" despotic regimes of the Moonsea. Agreements or no however, the Order continues to look on with anger at the Zhentarim and their deity, the Dark God Bane, refusing to co-operate or work with them, maintaining a watchful vigilance on their activities.   The Order main duties remain the fight against evil great and small, including hunting down a number of sinister cults, monsters and disturbances and as part of larger operations such as assisting fighting against Thar incursions or more recently, helping to defeat Granthfor Bonecruncher and his band of maundering giants.   They have set up a regional headquarters in Melvaunt on the back of these operations (it’s relative proximity to the Zhentarim capital at Zhentil Keep is also likely a strategic factor) and have a sizable force of Knights, squires and supporting staff that to serves as a small but effective military force. From here, the regional Chapter Master ("Righteous Hand") Uther Blelatin-Jaasice and ruling council direct the regions Chapters, who in turn command their own staff and attached bands. Chapter Houses can be found in almost every city and large town, with a network of supporting safe houses in other towns and villages. The only exceptions is Mulmaster , whose rulers’ blood letting and despotic rule is too much even for the Order to stomach.
