Somewhere, allegedly, within the Abyssal Prisons of the Doomvault is the lich Tarul Var. Perhaps he can unlock how to get into the Phylactery Vault, or at the very least have a way into the Temples of Extraction where you've heard is rumored to have the way into the Vault.
You have gained access to the Temples of Extraction. Supposedly, somewhere in this sector is a way into the Phylactery Vault so that you can end Szass Tam and every Lich in Thay for good!
After rescuing a member of the resistance you now know that the Shrines you have been seeing are somehow tied to the black gates and the Phylactery Vault -- but how?
After helping a would be defector, you learn exactly how to use the Shrines of Binding and Black Gates within the Temples of Extraction to gain access to the Phylactery Vault. Now all you have to do is gather enough glyph keys and find Black Gates in other sectors since you need to disrupt a certain number across multiple sectors.
Now that you know what needs to be done to get to the Phylactery Vault, you just need to clear out enough Thayans in enough zones to make sure they cannot thwart your plans - and find more glyph keys so you have enough to pull it off.

You found a glyph key allowing you to directly transport via Black Gate into the Prison of Filth zone in the Far Realm Cysts sector. Taking advantage of this stroke of luck allowing you to move more quickly to another sector and get you closer to controlling the requisite number of Black Gates to get to the Phylactery Vault you find yourself in an area that reeks to the Nine Hells - which is fitting since it has a bunch of otyughs.
You've located what should be the last Black Gate you will need, but you still have to find someone with a glyph key attuned to the zone it's in. So far all you've found is trees, shallow pools, owlbears, and whatever these creatures are that are attacking you from the trees!
You have but one Black Gate to secure to begin the steps to disrupt enough of them to get into the Phylactery Vault. But you also have no idea if Tarul Var has rejuvenated yet or not so even making it into the Vault, will you face an army of guards? Tarul Var's rejuvenated self? or Szass Tam himself?
