Hell Walkers
The Hell Walkers - as an established organization - are a more modern branch of the Pathfinders formed near the end of The Collapse, selected at the discretion of the Conclave. They were formed in order to explore the Hellgates so they might uncover its mysteries or some of the lost histories of Kilvas and Ferox.
In the multiple centuries since their inception, there has never been a single expedition sent into the Hellgates that has returned. Despite this, to be selected as a Hell Walker is considered to be the highest honor of the Pathfinders. It is the dream of many a Pathfinder to be selected, and be the first to succeed on an expedition.
A celebration, known as the Festival of Fortune, is held before each expedition into the Hellgates.
Joining the Hell Walkers
Only the Conclave is privy to the exact methods of selection or when to launch an expedition into the Hellgates, but it remains consistent that only those who have proven themselves to be the most capable and brave are selected. When the Conclave has decided to form an Expedition, those who are chosen as Hell Walkers are informed of their selection in advance of the Festival of Fortune, as they will have numerous duties to fulfill and preparations to make. It is only on the day of the festival that the rest of Kilvas learns of those who have been selected as Hell Walkers.
