Wardens
Origins
Though their duties are primarily to prevent outsiders from entering the Hellgates and maintaining general order within Kilvas, their history tells of a time when they were meant to keep creatures from coming out of them. Supposedly, in the days prior to the Era of the Eclipse, the Hellgates were the area in which Surtr’s forces invaded Ferox. During the Reclamation Era, it is said that Kilvas and the Hellgates were where the fight against Surtr’s forces was the most brutal. It is during this period that various schools of combat and magic were formed, in order to properly defend Ferox, as well as to fight Surtr’s forces. This period is widely considered to be the foundation upon which the Kilvas Wardens were formed. The Wardens were a collection of various individuals who have taken it upon themselves to defend the Hellgates. Primarily composed of Blood Hunters and Elementalists, the Wardens were meant to be the vanguard defending against Surtr’s invading forces and had to be strong enough to withstand the dangers of his unholy creations.Present
In the current era, the Wardens serve as a sort of local military force, protecting Kilvas (and surrounding regions) from stray monsters, bandits, or other threats. Due to the wide range of their duties, Wardens are the most numerous of the Pathfinders. Wardens who distinguish themselves, whether that be through skill or duty, are awarded a position in which they stand guard to prevent unauthorized entry to the Hellgates. Though this is a mostly ceremonial title, those who are permitted to serve as Wardens of the Hellgates are all capable individuals, and receiving such an assignment is considered to be a great honor. Those who receive such a coveted position are often referred to as “True Wardens” in the present era.
