Nat

Ynamok:
Nat (ænatíska)

Nat is the capital of the empire of Ænadó in northern Túlmikkía, located in the northern province of Depem.
The city prospers from being near one of the few places in the world with an easy access to purple dye, harvested from a certain species of mollusk, and is also a center of making colourful glass jewelry, bowls and jugs.

Demographics

Most of the inhabitants are Ænateans, Taxótans or Danteks, notable minorities include Galkans and South Hótics, the latter are mostly descendants of mercenaries who left Laxilþía after the Rexans conquered the ænatean colonies there.

Defences

The palace is surrounded by tall limestone walls and towers, and the rest of the city is defended by similar (though lower) fortifications

Infrastructure

Most of Nat is built using a grid plan, except for its outskirts beyond the outer fortifications. The palace is located on a low hill to the south, east of the river, connected to the docks by a main street, with a large market square at roughly halfway between the two. A smaller ceremonial plaza is located between the palace and market square, surrounded by the main temples and monuments, including the Temple of Únú, god of the sun and patron deity of Nat.

Architecture

Most buildings, including the homes of commoners, are made of mud-bricks, nobles live in houses made of limestone, while temples and parts of the royal palace are constructed largely out of wood, a legacy of the desert-dwelling enans to whom good timber was a rare commodity. Roofs are either flat or thatched with palm leaves.

Geography

Nat is located on both sides of the Kalá River delta, where it drains into the Akral Sea, giving the inhabitants easy access to both the sea and the Talax Mountains foothills.
