Session 2 - Tycho's Quest Home

General Summary

As Silmara, Kray, Drazer, and Bork , were at the notary's:   A firbolg approached the city gates, requesting help. The guards who had never seen a firbolg asked who and what he was. Tycho responded, and pleaded for help to save his village. Unsure of how to proceed the guards sent a runner to the town council for clarity on what to do. The council members also had never heard of a Firbolg, called on the renowned Professor Charles Birchwood to help shed some on the situation.   A runner was quickly sent to the Scale and Tail were they found the Professor and requested he come with them to Council Hall. The Professor grudgingly agreed, and slowly made his way to the hall where he was asked about firbolgs. Having been a renowned scholar, he of course knew of firbolgs, but had never seen one alive. The council, content in the knowledge that the firbolgs were from the Old World, agreed to let the frantic pleading firbolg into town. As the professor left the council, he stumbled upon the group of adventures leaving the notary's. After their meeting, the party and SIlamra especially had a sad look on their faces. As the professor stopped to notice the Goliath that was towering over the crowds of people, he cautiously approached, both fearing for his life, and intrigued by the unknown.   As he approached the group he quickly introduced himself, Kray quickly greeted him back. As the professor looked up at the goliath; Drazer lowered his hand and pat the small human on his head. Silmara, in her saddened state, took her leave of the group to plan her next move and possibly plan a memorial for her lost aunt. Bork decided to go check on Kothar after his humiliating defeat.   The Professor, asked the adventures to come with him to the gate, to see what all the commotion was about, and to investigate the firbolg. With little else to do both Kray and Drazer reluctantly agreed.   When they approached the gate the guards questioned the Professor before letting in the panicked firbolg into Saltmarsh. As he entered the city, which he had never seen before, he was taken aback by the buildings and the unnatural layout of the place. He was quickly greeted by the group of adventures, and immediately began pleading for aid. He explained that his village and forest were being attacked and pillaged by unknown villains, believed to be either orcs, or dire beavers. As he pleaded he became very thirsty, and asked to go somewhere to find help. They agreed and made their way to the Merry Mermaid.   Upon entering the Merry Mermaid, the group was greeted by a very buxom woman named Sabrina. As she took the party’s order, Tycho became overwhelmed by the “sights” of the establishment, and began drinking in excess. Tycho explained his village’s problems and why they needed help; offering Durian wine and beaver pelts as a prize. This got Kray and Drazer interested, and alcohol was the solution to all of life’s problems. Shortly after Tycho attempted to make a rousing plea for help to the people in the nearly empty bar, not surprisingly to little avail.   A little after arriving another gentlemen came to greet the group by the name of Benny "the Cricket" - a fish monger who also worked for Mr. Salley. After some discussion Drazer was offered a position as bouncer, Kray was conditionally offered a position of fisherman, and Tycho was offered to play his flute in the corner for tips.   Agreeing to help Tycho and his village, Kray then led the group to the Skylark, and unceremoniously quit, gaining a mere 1 shilling in back pay. Believing the party needed a wagon for their trails, they arrived at an ostler's establishment, and began negotiating for a horse and cart. Unfortunately, the ostler did not sell carts. The party ended up being too cheap to buy a horse, and left.   The party then went to the Scale and Tail searching for Silmara, but were unable to find her. They left a note with the bar keep, saying where they were going, and stayed another night in the uncomfortable flop house. Early the next morning they packed up their belongings, and left the town.   After several hours had passed, the group stumbled upon a small canoe. Quickly looking around, they checked to see if anyone was there to dispute their claims to it. The party decided to liberate the boat from the shore bank. As they were attempting to board the boat; a group of gnolls came from all around, demanding weapons for their boat. After some intense negotiations it was agreed to trade some daggers for the boat.   The party then boarded the boat and rowed up the river, narrowly avoiding a horrendous vile evil bear that would surely have mauled the party to death.   Once more around a bend in the river the boat came upon a small town of Sanctuary (a den of Harper zealots). As the adventures landed their boat, and walked up to the gates, asking enter. The guard refused, saying it was too late for visitors. After the professor shook his hefty coin purse at the guard, the man requested that the entire purse be handed over for entry. Not wanting to sleep outside, the party agreed, and slept in a small room to the side of the gate tower.   Early the next morning, the guard that let them in, hurried them out of the town, before anyone else awoke. As they left the town they continued on their quest to the Firbolg Village. As they got closer and closer to the village, the party started to smell the scent burnt smoky wood. Fearing for his village, Tycho became hysterical and ran, worried about everyone he had ever known. Arriving at the settlement, the party found the village in near ashes, with several of the resident’s heads on stone spears around the remnants of the village. After some searching, Kray found the only known survivor - Tycho’s teacher, Leto.   Leto recounted what he saw: how the large group of 30 or more orcs attacked and destroyed everything in their path, killing a great many. Leto also gave Tycho a quest to try to rebuild the settlement. He then requested Tycho give him a green potion he had stashed away; and after drinking it quickly died.   Searching the burned remnants of the village, the group was able to find several unopened caskets of Durian wine. In the meantime, Tycho concluded that fewer than half the villagers lay dead here. The rest must have been driven off. The group decided to head back to Sanctuary, to gain support and recon the area prior to engaging any orcs or dire beavers.
