The Gods of Machar
The world of Machar is ruled by a pantheon of 9 gods whose diverse powersets and personalities aided in the rise and fall of humanity. In the beginning they walked alongside the mortals, each one contributing to society with their unique abilities of wind, water, earth, blood, gravity, ice, illusion, soul and fire. Eventually it was determined that their divine intervention was inhibiting the humans ability to progress, and an agreement was forged in which each god would sacrifice a portion of their power and give it to one human of each of the lands. These people would be known as godlings, the physical tie from humanity to the realm of the gods. These empowered humans would help rule over their brethren and create peace among those who gained magic. The majority of the gods willingly created godlings, all except for Erra, who selfishly decided against losing his control over mortals, and instead chose to rule the earth himself instead of sending someone in his place. This selfish choice caused the Pantheon War, a disasterous event that ended in the deaths of thousands, and the "deaths" of the gods. After the war, all deities seemingly vanished alongside their chosen godlings.
