Dragon Church

The Dragon Church is the part of the Aurathean Church dedicated to worship of the draconic aspect of Aurathear Darastrix. Not truly an organized religion, the Dragon Church consists of hundreds of monasteries, missionary organizations, charities and congregations that are united in faith and purpose, but do not answer to one another. A dragon cleric, as the priests of the Dragon Church are called, answers only to their god, though the vast majority accept the authority of The Gold Emperor and their decarchs.

Structure

The Dragon Church is divided into many smaller denominations, monasteries and organizations, but these all fit broadly within the five metals:
Gold
Gold Dragon Clerics are dedicated to hunting creatures of darkness, often undeads such as ghosts or vampires, but many also ply trades as monster hunters.
Silver
Silver Dragon Clerics are often healers and many travel the empire as doctors for those who can't afford help elsewhere. The Silver Dragon Clerics often operate non-profit hospitals, clinics and give emergency aid to any who need it.
Bronze
Bronze Dragon Clerics are tricksters and gamblers, pranksters, artists and honest liars, whose primary purpose is humbling the mighty and toppling the arrogant. The acolytes of the bronze dragons are often instrumental in operating newspapers that investigate corruption and lies. Fortune favors the faithful.
Copper
Copper Dragon Clerics are sailors, fishermen and often travel on ships to protect them from stormy seas, and seek to aid those whose circumstances have left them wrecked. They often form sailor's unions, insurance companies for ships lost at sea and frequently travel with ships known to be headed in dangerous waters, so they can aid protect the ships and the people aboard them.
Brass
Brass Dragon Clerics are librarians, scientists, authors and historians with a divine mandate to collect all knowledge and share it freely with the empire. They often operate libraries, museums and universities around the empire and share their knowledge freely.
Each of these branches of the church is nominally headed by a decarch, who has little in the way of true power over the other clerics of their faith but who is respected and whose advice is listened to.

History

The Dragon Church is a direct descendant of the first Dragon Clerics, who wandered throughout Oldan following the arrival of the Gold Dragons and during the First Conquests. After the first ecumenical council of Eilcíud these formed the core of the Dragon Church and continued the practice of small cells of clerics working together to grow, multiply and fortify the faithful communities.
