The Freecities, Hariel Minuta
"All is permitted..."
The Freecities
Possibly the newest inhabited lands of Hariel Minuta (and the entire West, for that matter), the freecities are more of a collection of small towns, built with high palasades to protect them from the harsh south or potential invaders, giving them the appearance of military forts or keeps.
The one bustling trade port of any prominence is Zarna, which was the first of the free cities to be established. It is also the largest. The city boasts the Southmost seaport on the continent of Hariel. It's also the closest seaport to the isles of The Serpent's Teeth, which themselves feature the last port of call (Freeport) on the long trip across the World Sea to Golthien.
New Brimmingston (named after a small, boom town in the upper Blight, destroyed during the Sundering) is a small town mostly comprised of former farmers and craftsmen who've traveled far to establish a colony far from any magic friendly civilization. New Brimmingston is the smallest of the Freecities.
The fastest growing (and most notorious) of the free cities of the Southron Lands is Qudra "City of Fate". It's also the busiest slave market in all Hariel. Though not a coastal city itself, Qudra lies on the bank of the Tyrenese River, and the tributary is used to ferry slaves up from the southern gulf that feeds The World Sea.
The centerpiece of the open market in Qudra is the slave pits, over which is built an auction stage where some of the most bizarre slaves imaginable are bought and sold. From fey beings of the north to vile fiends from the lower hells. It's all here, for a price.
Qudra is the closest thing to a capital the Freecities have, and the rulers of each city convene there several times a year to go over matters of concern to all. The Council of the Freecities is headed up by the Lord of Qudra, the elusive Mohan Teer (who typically wears a mask, leading people to assume he may be multiple people posing as one).
There are additional settlements south of Veric, that add to the free cities, however most of them are quite small, no bigger than townships.
Government
Each of the free cities is individually governed, and city policies only effect neighboring cities indirectly. See individual city entries for more information on their operational standards.
Industry & Trade
With the exception of New Brimmingston, the free cities trade openly with one another.
