The Wastes of Veric

"The largest desert in the west..."

So named for the 13th Prince of Wyeth who sought to expand the king's domain past it's northern edge (this is still many years before the Sundering), and who was lost to the desert, never to be seen again.   A land of vast wastes and powerful magic. South of the Varuum Corona lies the great desert expanse of Veric. Hundreds of miles of desolation stand in between the brave traveller and the Southron Vale, as occupied by The Free Cities, and the elven woods of the Horta (to the west).   It's eastern border is marked by the Wyrm's Crest mountains, beyond which lies the peninsula of Kreeluk (named after its exiled Lentokki rulers) and the wizard city of Sage (aka Sage Boorka). Sage is home to the most extreme of Varuum's former Custodians, having traded their Custodial station for that of The Boorka.   The desolation of Veric is all encompassing. At it's longest trajectory, it spans 216 miles. It's difficult to express its dire conditions in game terms, but heat and exhaustion rules should be in full effect.

Geography

The transition from tropical to arid to wasteland is less gradual than one would expect, to the extent that there will be a moment where the party knows they're about to enter the desert.   It's common knowledge that there are few, if any, oasis points once one ventures deep into Veric. The party is going to want to stop at the last watering hole they can find before going further.   There is a village at the edge of Veric called "Bajan al Zeke's Last Hope." It looks abandoned upon first glance, but upon closer inspection, the residents are simply hiding in their homes.

Fauna & Flora

The only beasts that call the desert home are of the most sturdy stock. It is said that great worms burrow beneath the dunes, surfacing only to attack travelers in order to feed, beckoned by the vibrations they make. The desert is home to many elementals and djinn as well. As far as the humanoid races, the desert Thri-Kreen (cousins of the forest kreen) are the only race to naturally thrive in the blasted climate.

Natural Resources

Very few resources can be found in the wastes. The wise traveler brings everything they need along with them.
