The Shadow of The Fell Lady

The Shadow of The Fell Lady was a Shade encountered in Stathgow and later present at The Disaster at Cainfield. During an interaction outside of Stathgow a link of some kind was created between The Fell Lady and Braddish Lormer, the Squire of ser Odric Vortane. This connection was broken by Brother Sharad Towerbreaker, however it then passed to him. While affected by this connection, Brother Sharad was able to see through the eyes of The Fell Lady, allowing him to identify that she was residing in Stathgow Castle. He rode to the Black City to confront The Fell Lady, but was struck down by her. This was immediately followed by the dark forces in Stathgow breaking free of the city's walls and expanding The Dark Cloud over the city to cover nearby Cainfield, a prelude to The Disaster at Cainfield. The Fell Lady was last seen atop the walls at Cainfield as Lady Ophelia Foxworth-Hayford fled the battle.

Abilities

Aside from the features common to Shades, The Fell Lady seemed to exhibit a number of unique abilities:

  • Like most shades The Fell Lady exhibited an ability to shift her form, though in her case she maintained a recognisable human shape, simply growing or shrinking as necessary. In particular, she could grow the lower part of her form to tower over others.
  • Her appearance seemed to be a reflection of those she was interacting with, shifting fluidly between various female figures in the viewer's life, from maternal figures to romantic to mentors. Each person viewing The Fell Lady percieved these differently at the same time, it is unclear what she actually looked like.
  • Possibly linked to the above, The Fell Lady had the ability to affect the minds of those viewing her, causing them to become desparate to reach out and take her hand. Affected individuals would find themselves, willingly or not, walking toward her and attempting to touch her hand. This can cause affected individuals to take dangerous actions they would otherwise avoid - jumping from heights, for example. It would also cause them to continue approaching her through pain and injury, dragging their bodies across the ground if necessary.
  • Finally, The Fell Lady displayed an ability to 'absorb' those who did reach her, with their physical bodies appearing to be pulled into her hand at the point of contact.
