Artisans' Quarter
Defences
This district is arrayed in a corner between the city's East wall, and the Black Wall, which divides it from the Theives' Quarter (Though several rumours suggest this quarter's eponymous Guild has numerous secret passages through this defense).
The East wall also features the Druid's Gate, a fortified entry point at the quarter's southeast corner.
Industry & Trade
The Artisans' Quarter is a centre of craftsmanship. It is home to several guildhalls for laborers' and craftspersons' unions, as well as performing artists.
Especially in the Low Market, the Artisans' Quarter is the economic engine of the Free City. Most of the city's trading and manufacturing happens within this quarter.
Guilds and Factions
Nearly every guild plies their trade at some part of the Low Market. A few guilds also have their Halls within the quarter:
- The Guildhall of Performing Artistes
- The Guildhall of Architects and Stonemasons
- The Guildhall of Leatherworkers, Weavers, and Tailors
- The Guildhall of the Carpenters
Points of interest
The Artisan's Quarter's best-known feature by far is the Low Market. "Low" only because it is downhill of the city's northern regions, the Low Market is almost a district unto itself. Almost any material item, magical or mundane, can be procured here.
Bards might take an interest in the Guildhall of Performing Artistes. Like most guildhalls, bureaucratic management of guild affairs is only part of what happens in this building. It is also an excellent place to survey the goings-on of the city in terms of performance art. Casting calls are often advertised here, as well.
Other landmarks include the quarters' City Watch Station, as well as two restaurants: The Fat of the Hog, a pub between two guildhalls, and the Fruit of the Mill, a café near the Druid's Gate.
