Khilaian Isles

The holy islands of Motosui and Okailu are known as the Khilaian Isles. They are where Selkies began as a species, Okailu the only place where the Test of the Depths can take place for a selkie to gain their pelt, and they are the heart and soul of the Khilaia- the ultimate authority of Selkie religion and politics. The Islands are guarded from outsiders by Kailio  - a massive immortal guardian otter tasked by The Chimera to protect the islands. Moon Druidism was first given to the selkies here, before anywhere else.   The islands are relatively remote. To the East, the mainland lies 258 miles away at its closest point (Point Niara). To the South, the 84-square-mile Island of Anetia (sometimes informally included in the Khilaian isles) sits 256 miles away. For many years, only Selkies could make the 4-9 day journey of mostly open ocean- the islands are a fortress.

Geography

Motosui is much larger than Okailu. It is a bit smaller than Hawaii's big island- 66 miles by 52 miles across. It is rectangular in shape almost, with a ridge of hills going down the humid and lush Southern side. The North is much more flat, with only a few hills along the sides and a semi-arid climate. The Western shore opens into three penninsulas, each with many inlets and bays.   Okailu is only 5.6 miles from the Western peninsulas of Motosui. It is 10 by 7 miles across, marking it an incredibly small but important island. A single dormant volcano sits in the center, with small hills surrounding it.

Fauna & Flora

The isles are very different in fauna and flora than the mainland. Motosui in particularly has a wide variety of marsupials- small numbers of Thylacine, wombats, and koala live here. Giant otters flourish along the South and West coasts. Okailu is full of otters along the coasts, and is dotted with unique dragon's blood trees.
