Kich Mepyukk
The Kich Mepyukk is the Utoric empire which controls more than half of the continent of Atux. The empire was forged through conquest as migrating Utoric peoples fled Haraxim due to the transformation of the continent into a vast desert by the wellspring. This sudden change caused famine and conflict to break out for decades over the few remaining sources of water and tracts of arable land. Thus, many Utor fled across to Atux, aiming to claim land and forge a new Utoric kingdom. Thus, upon landing on the southern coast of Atux, Utoric armies from previously rival nations banded together and began to conquer the disorganized and decentralized Hazcuo and Komtol peoples of Atux. Over the next few centuries, the Utoric people had taken over nearly the entirety of Atux, with the Kich Mepyukk controlling most of the continent while breakaway Utor kingdoms or puppet states controlled the rest. The only kingdoms in Atux not Utoric in terms of their reigning royal lineage are the Moyi Wekk, the Nìsso Yunri, and the Yika Amku, which controls a small region in northern Atux.
The Kich Mepyukk, the largest empire in Atux and the second largest in the world, is undergoing a serious political shift as the current emperor lies infirm, slowly dying from serious mental deterioration. He never bore an heir, having vowed celibacy upon the death of his daughter nearly four decades ago. However, many claimed to be his bastard child, and one of the claimants, a young man by the name of Kiri Ixas, was decided the heir of the empire by judicial vote. Kiri Ixas, being the heir, is also now the regent and ruling body of the Kich Mepyukk; however, many are unsure of how fit he is to rule. While he was the son of an influential noble, his position within his family had led him to believe that he would not inherit any titles or land, leading him to live a life of revelry and drunken stupor. Yet, the empire's royal judges, stating they had seen a great omen, decided that he would inherit the title of Mepyukk. Thus, disdain for the judges' decision and unrest is gradually brewing among the empire's people.
Being the hearth and beacon of Utor culture, the Kich Mepyukk is the only state in all of Atux to have a majority Utor population, despite nearly all of them being ruled by Utoric kings. While Utor people make up the majority of the empire's people, there are still many Komtol peoples who remain in the empire's territory, having resided in the southern deserts since before the Utor invasion. Many Nuvarians also reside in the deserts, having arrived with the Utor refugees. The empire's population is clustered in a few separate regions: the vast majority live on the eastern coast of Atux in the temperate Ocher river basin while others live on the western Ichitar peninsula or in the more steppe-like regions of the desert. The vast deserts of the Kich Mepyukk are filled with rich veins of mundane ores as well as massive amounts of Etril deposits, meaning many quarries and mining communities exist even in the less hospitable desert regions.
