The Mages Gift
The Ability one is born with to Influence The Energy of Mana by will alone to make something happen or change something established. It is a hereditary condition for Elves, Dwarves, and The Races of Men. And an innate part of ones being for Dragons.
Causes
Mage Ancestry.
Symptoms
The Mages Gift manifests as early as five years old. In the form of unwitting or unconscious magical conduction. Objects moving without being held aloft. Random ripples of Mana Energy appearing in the open air. Often happening in the corner of the eye. But as time goes on, if they avoid detection or go unreported. Mage-Born children can become more obvious to spot. Levitation in emotional bouts or breakdowns. Things catching fire. People suddenly unable to keep their thoughts to themselves. Or even be in control of their actions. Untrained and unconditioned mages can and will cause devastation if left out in the world alone. Which is why The University of Arcaena is constantly seeking to refine their means of detecting Mage-Born children.
Treatment
The condition is irremovable. Mage-Born children must be trained and conditioned in the arts in order to survive in the world.
History
Dragons were the first to ever Conduct The Energy of Mana to make manifest their will. What today is called, the Performance of Magic. When Elves came into the world. When they were presented with the gifts brought on by the Great Apple Trees of Vytol. Many refused the gifts of the Tree Tuendamiel, feeling in their hearts that Magic would be a hindrance of the self. Dwarves received the gift from the creator of The Energy of Mana. The Oraedar Yurion. Who had created Dwarves to be as he was. To be the refiners of the world as he was the Refiner of Stars. Yet they were not finite in their lifespans as the Dragons and Elves. And would suffer The Ravage if they performed Magic to a high degree. And when The Races of Men came into the world. They experienced both conditions of the Mages Gift. They could perform Magic without physical cost to their hearts content. But when they abused their gift, and began the events of their own downfall from the First Homeland of Artea. Their creater, the Anverai Caemar, removed the gift from the vaster majority of their number. Allowing only a select few and their descendants to be able to Conduct Mana to perform Magic. But in their new world. They would suffer The Ravage as the Dwarves do. Orcs, having been separated from their creator, Oraedar Vytol, at their beginning. The Orcs are incapable of Conducting Mana, or Performing Magic. Yet their Shamans can become one with Spirits of Nature.
