The Sothaagaat River (So-th-ah-g-ah-t)

Sothaagaat, meaning "South-Gate" or perhaps "South-Route" in Skaadic. Is the primary route of access from The Heartland into the Savage lands of Bulgaard. The river had been used time and time again across the Millennia by both the Heartland Men and the Skaari Men.

During The Second Aeon, the many Folks of Elves called it Coasann Faur, "The Cold Path." Believing the extreme and inhospitable cold of the North to be the land of Daemons, Monsters, and Spirits of Hateful Hearts. Even the Wild Giants of the Heartland warned of the wrath of their more hateful kin. The Ice Giants. Whom they had driven back into the North during the end of The First Aeon.

In The Third Aeon, Skaari Men would make use of the river as a route into the Heartland to conduct raids for food, medicine, and more useful materials than silver, gold, or jewels. The river remained a primary route of trade and travel during the reign of The Ellician Empire over the Heartland and Bulgaard. Even after Bulgaard reclaimed its independance near the end of the Old Empire.

Today, in The Fourth Aeon, it remains a route for trade under the fragile peace between the Jaarls of Bulgaard and the The Kingdom of Dekmire.

Geography

The Sothagaut is a deep bed river with fertile tributaries in the territory of Dekmire at its southern end and inner Bulgaard where it feeds into The Great Lake of Volkaat at the center of the Stronghold Nation. Between these ends, the rocky surface of The Frostwall Mountains runs down all the way to the river depth. It is in this narrow neck of the river that the river is coldest. Occasionally experiencing freeze outs to such extremes that the river becomes inaccessible without Human interferance.
