Fhrunla

Once the mightiest people in the region, but were subjugated by the league and the betrayal of the Norskjaeg kingdoms. The Fhrunlai are believed to be the descendants of the Almar clans who fled north after their defeat at the hands of the King Korvand and the Fraini peoples, sharing many similarities in their honor culture which mingled with the local's Traditions, with them to foreign lands.   Exiled and banished from the lands, the remaining of their people grew cold of heart, selling their blades for coin and raiding what they could to survive, a once noble people turned to little more than the savages they had conquered in ages past. The Fhrunla are a scarred people, stories of their first defeat bitter bile in their hearts, still told from father to son and mother to daughter. Scattered to the winds, it was not until the Varllum the conquerer with divine premonition from the Kairath the Uniter to gather the wandering tribes and lead them north to a promised land.

Kairan the Uniter

A god solely worshipped by the Fhrunla, he is a god of conquest and glory, but more importantly, he is their savior, he who leads to them a new land, he teaches that by personal sacrifice and strength one can achieve everything. By obedience one can become immortal, to be part of something bigger, there is no greater glory. Though rarely taken so literally, it is by teachings of unity and perseverance that he has become loved by his people.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Long have the Fhrunlai been warriors and conquerors, but for many years they had thrived on their laurels of the past, and the sword became dull, or rather it was needed, the Fhrunlai these days are shrewd merchants, often called scammers and conmen by others for they have not the integrity of the artisans wears they peddle, but their active spirit sees them push out fearless into ventures others deem too dangerous, victory or death, though not as literal, it is still a spirit they carry in all things, fear dulls the blade of the virtuous they say.

Shared customary codes and values

The Fhrunlai are fierce people, of cunning minds and restless bodies, to be still is to be dead. To take risks and be bold, these are virtues to the Fhrunlai, they have little care for word or honor only success and survival, years of hardship have taught them that honor is worth only its weight in gold and future prospects. Competitive and social amongst themselves, and fiercely hierarchical in all things, though not strictly they hold to many subtle hierarchies. Wit, brawn and intellect, etc. Often hosting competitions to prove who is better within the community, those who win becoming the local master of such subjects, and deferred to on such matters, so while one may be considered low on the totem pole regarding military matters, could easily be well respected for other abilities. Defeat in such cases are not shamed but seen as trails to be overcome, yet those who fail repeatably to show progress are eventually deemed ousted.   The Fhrunlai are fiercely proud, but there is no honor that binds them to defend it, they are quite content to swallow the bitter bile of shame and wait their time, for history has taught them that eventually, they will rise again. But they are not soon to forget a slight and are generally not practically minded enough to always let such an opportunity go.

Common Taboos

To fail the people, to fail the Fhrunlai, to be weak time and time again, when you are to be strong, this is unacceptable to the Fhrunlai, it is a concept to take not many paths of life, a man who fails to provide for his children, a woman who fails to make cloths, a man who fails to proactive when needed, a woman who is too dull to further her station, such people are eventually ousted, a taboo subject, they are erased from the people's memory, ceremonially buried alive, before being branded, the last chance, before they are buried in the truth.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Fhrunlai generally ascribe beauty to hygiene and shows of wealth, with of course there also being some desirable physical attributes e.g: Men are expected to be slim and fit, with some physical strength to them, but powerful builds are associated with lower status, and though fallen from grace, such attributes are still frowned upon. Whereas women are to be pale to show that they have not had to live a life of hardship, they are to be lithe and slim of body.   Both men and women are to present themselves as clean and groom themselves properly, coming and trimming hair as needed, with it being considered a very tender act to clean one another.

Gender Ideals

Men and women are held in many things to the same regard, but a woman is expected to be meek and sly, her wits are to be her tool, while men are expected to use bold and strong and sharp.
