List of Options
This list is in no particular order, but the Veliki and Zama aren't as deeply connected to the region as the others.

Aleirus : From the colonies along the Northwestern ridge of the region; harsh people that're willing to do anything to survive. Maybe you're one of the many mercenaries who come to seek their fortune under the wealthy merchants of the ports. Or a brigand, there to take the wealth from any unsuspecting convoy. Or maybe even a merchant yourself. Or maybe even the many Aleiran historians and scribes that come to the Reach to study the wonders of the old Kairelian Empire... or even older mysteries.
Khai : A new people coming from a growing economic power; prideful and silver-tongued. To be a Khai is to have grown up under the near constant propaganda from your High Delegates. Your original tribe's culture has been wiped and replaced with a culture of nigh constant nationalism and mercantalism, unifying all the young Khai. Perhaps you're an elder or was taught of your original people's ways, but was caught and then had to flee Khairae for your own survival. A spy sent to gather information of the other country's wealth, power, and politics. Or a merchant's guild courier who got their hands on something they really shouldn't have.
Yarai : People of Myr who are an old power in the region; republican militarists that live in the splendorous shadow of millenia old empires. To be a person with any representative authority means to have served in the military. It's possible that you could be an old soldier, reitred for your age and left to your own devices to find any new purpose. An ambitious mage aiming to be one of the mythical group known as the Scortama that serves the Speakers. A slave from a particularly cruel master's villa that has escaped and is forced to live on the run. An engineer or scientist in search of new knowledge to complete some schematic they've been working on for years. Or someone who stumbled onto ancient artifacts and devices, changing them forever.
Sirtzite : A very old military power in the region; honorable, warrior people with a strict belief in feudalism and a bloody history. While this might sound like the most standard fantasy ethnicity, to be a Sirtzite is, generally, to have a very unique cultural identity. Most Sirtzite men are illiterate and leave the scribing, education, and magic to the women and priests. It's possible that you're a minor noble who must venture out to procure wealth and fame. A member of the Aned-Shacad (order of female mages) assigned or just interested in the investigation of magical and/or strange occurances. Or a peasant who has the status of some sort of folkhero after fending off a Skeeln raiding party.
"Barbarian" : Collection of tribes in the mountains to the far west; value strength and spiritualism. "Barbarians" are a collection of mountain tribes that have tried to keep to themselves. However, they've been pushed out of their original homes in the Deqese and have taken shelter in the High Places to the west. Even more have been seeking asylum elsewhere. You could be a shaman with mystical powers, drawing upon the spirits in a strange land. Or a lone warrior attempting to navigate the new world that they find themselves in.
Beshnomi : A people who have been caught in the middle of wars for as long as anyone can remember; extremely friendly people who are always looking to deescalate conflict. Most Beshnomi have these traits and grow up in their families to farm, but not all are as fortunate. You could've grown up under the Clock on the southern port cities of Beshnom and are now looking for a way out. Or you joined the Evlogdesh religion and started to roam as a mercenary to spill holy blood. Or you could've been "recruited" into the Sirtzite armies to help defend the borders and roads of Beshnom against brigands and mercenaries.
Haiodzen : One of the few city states capable of keeping independent; hardworking master artisans that believe in constant hardwork and hustle. You could be one of the many students in Haiod, looking for knowledge of a new craft or studying the history. A member of one of the Concordant's gangs tasked with going on a long journey or learning information. Or maybe you are compelled to seek out the last of the Eisonite armor to learn its secrets and try to learn how to craft more of it.
Veliki : An isolationist monarchy across the Sea of Storms; xenophobic, mysterious people. The Great Houses of Sovereign Velik led by the High King have many heirs. If you want to play as a prince who is forced to look for favor from the King to be named heir, the sovereign Veliki are your best bet.
Zama : Nomadic horse warriors that make a living through their raids; a scary people that most respect due to their strength. To be a Zama is to have a horse and be able to ride it into battle. Most Zama in the region are bought as mercenaries or newly converted Desheen -- usually both.
